Boston Sheet Metal Ltd. is looking for a Project Manager to join our team managing commercial and multi-residential sheet metal/HVAC projects throughout the Lower Mainland.
We are looking for someone who understands construction, takes ownership of their work, communicates well with both field and office teams, and can keep projects moving from award through completion and warranty.
This position may suit an experienced Project Manager, Project Coordinator, or an experienced Sheet Metal Journeyperson/Foreman who is ready to take the next step in their career.
The Role
As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for the overall coordination and financial performance of assigned projects. You will work closely with our foremen, BIM/detailing team, suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors and consultants to identify problems early and keep the field supplied with the information, materials and decisions needed to perform efficiently.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing contracts, drawings, specifications and project scope
- Project start-up, planning and scheduling
- Working closely with field supervisors and supporting site execution
- Coordinating shop drawings, BIM/detailing and fabrication requirements
- Purchasing equipment and materials and coordinating deliveries
- Managing RFIs, submittals, change orders and project correspondence
- Tracking labour, costs, commitments and project financial performance
- Preparing progress billings and forecasts
- Identifying scope gaps, schedule impacts and project risks
- Attending project and coordination meetings
- Managing deficiencies, commissioning, close-out and warranty requirements
- Maintaining professional relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and trade partners
What We're Looking For
Construction experience is important; sheet metal/HVAC experience is strongly preferred.
The right person will have:
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills
- Confidence communicating with field personnel, contractors, and consultants
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
- Strong written communication and documentation skills
- Practical understanding of construction sequencing and coordination
- Commercial awareness and an understanding that good project management includes protecting both productivity and project margin
- Comfortable working with common construction and Microsoft Office software
A Red Seal Sheet Metal Worker certification, previous foreman experience, or mechanical construction project management experience would be an asset.
How We Work
At Boston Sheet Metal, Project Managers aren't expected to manage projects from behind a desk.
Our PMs work closely with the people building the job. A large part of the role is anticipating what the field will need next, removing obstacles before they affect production, and making sure problems are identified and dealt with early.
We value practical construction knowledge, accountability, good communication and long-term relationships.
If you have strong sheet metal construction experience but haven't previously held a Project Manager title, we would still like to hear from you. We can teach our systems and PM processes; we're much more interested in finding someone with construction judgment, ownership, urgency and the ability to earn the field's trust.
