The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and driven Articling Student to complete their articles at HKS Law. This is a rare opportunity to article at a firm where you will gain broad, multi-practice-area experience in a compressed timeframe — ideal for candidates who want to enter the profession as a well-rounded, practice-ready lawyer.You will be supervised directly by the Principal Lawyer and exposed to the full lifecycle of client matters across multiple practice areas.
What You'll Do
- Assist on active litigation files including drafting pleadings, motions, correspondence, and legal memoranda
- Attend court appearances, case conferences, motions, and hearingsSupport real estate transactions from agreement of purchase and sale through to closing
- Assist with family law matters including separation agreements, case conferences, and motion materialsDraft corporate documents, contracts, and retainer agreements
- Conduct legal research and prepare summary memos for principal review
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court offices under supervision
- Participate in client intake and file management using Clio
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Enrolled in or completed an Ontario-accredited law school (LLB or JD)
- Eligible to register as an articling student with the Law Society of Ontario
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills
- Eagerness to learn across multiple areas of law
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage a fast-paced workload
- Professional demeanor and genuine commitment to client service
Assets (not required):
- Prior exposure to litigation, family law, real estate, immigration, or criminal law through placement, clinic, or coursework
- Experience with Clio, legal research platforms (CanLII, Westlaw, Lexis), or legal office environments
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Punjabi, Hindi, French, or other languages a strong asset given our diverse client base)
