About the Role
We're a growing online retro video game store and consumer electronics business specializing in sourcing, restoring, and reselling classic gaming hardware. We're hiring an Online Video Game Store Assistant to handle the day-to-day work that gets our inventory photographed, listed, and out the door — product photography, creating accurate online listings, and packing and unpacking products.
This is a hands-on, detail-driven role at the heart of our operation. It's ideal for someone who is organized, takes pride in clean and accurate work, and enjoys the steady rhythm of getting great products presented well and shipped reliably.
We're looking for someone with a calm, reliable, detail-oriented personality — the kind of person who keeps things organized, catches the small stuff, and brings a consistent, steady pace to the work.
Examples of products you'll work with include:
- Video game consoles — Nintendo, Sony, and others (Sega, Microsoft, Atari, etc.)
- Handhelds — Game Boy line, DS/3DS, PSP/PS Vita, Switch, and modern retro handhelds
- Games, cartridges, and accessories — boxed and loose
- Other electronics — cameras, phones, and related gear
Responsibilities
- Photograph products for listings on your own iPhone — consistent lighting, clean backdrops, and multiple angles that accurately show condition.
- Edit and prepare photos so listings look professional and true to the item.
- Create accurate online listings (eBay, Shopify, and similar) — titles, descriptions, condition grading, and categorization.
- Research comparable items to help with accurate pricing and listing details.
- Unpack and receive incoming inventory — inspect, sort, and log new arrivals.
- Pack sold items securely and correctly for safe shipping, using appropriate materials.
- Organize and label inventory so items are easy to find and track.
- Keep accurate records of listings, stock, and shipments.
- Maintain a clean, organized photography and packing workspace.
- Help manage packing and shipping supplies, flagging when stock runs low.
Qualifications
- Organized, detail-oriented, high energy and reliable.
- Comfortable with computers — listing platforms, spreadsheets, and email.
- Basic product photography skills, or a good eye and willingness to learn.
- An iPhone is required — product photos are taken using your own iPhone.
- An eBay account is required — you'll be granted team/multi-user access to our store to create and manage listings.
- Clear, accurate writing for listing titles and descriptions.
- Careful, hands-on handling of products when packing and unpacking.
- A calm, steady, consistent approach to repetitive, precise work.
- Customer service experience is a plus but not required.
Nice to Have (Not Mandatory)
None of these are required, but they're a plus and help your application stand out:
- Past experience with online selling (eBay, Shopify, Mercari, etc.).
- Product photography or photo-editing experience.
- Genuine passion for retro gaming and/or electronics.
- Past experience working at a video game store.
- Access to a car (useful for sourcing runs and events).
Pay & Perks
- Hourly, [$23–$30/hr], commensurate with experience.
- On-the-job training.
- Eligible to attend select expo and convention events as the team grows.
- Employee discount on our inventory.
- Option to be paid in store credit — take part of your compensation as store credit toward games, consoles, and gear at a preferred rate, if you'd like.
- Equipment is provided — lighting, backdrops, and packing supplies. Product photos are taken on your own iPhone.
- Regular short breaks are encouraged and paid — they help maintain focus and consistent, high-quality work.
Accountability & Quality
Listing accuracy and careful packing are central to this role — clear photos, correct condition grading, and secure packing directly affect customer satisfaction and returns. Where avoidable mistakes (inaccurate listings, mispacks, damage from careless handling) happen significantly or repeatedly, it becomes a performance issue: you'll be coached, and continued or serious issues may result in removal from the role. We'd much rather help you build clean, consistent habits than part ways, so we treat this as a clear, fair expectation set up front.
Compensation details are finalized based on experience. We're happy to discuss the role and growth opportunities during the interview.
