Position: Fundraising and Community Engagement Coordinator (4 Days/Week)
Contract Length: 1 year (with possibility of extension)
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours of Work: Tuesday-Friday 9am-5pm. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends will be required to meet program needs.
In partnership with our diverse community, Bethesda House provides inclusive, secure emergency shelter, outreach services, survivor-centered advocacy, prevention, education, and other supports to women and their children, empowering them to overcome the fear and oppression resulting from all forms of gender-based violence and abuse.
Position Overview
The Fundraising and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and executing fundraising initiatives, community engagement activities, events, and donor stewardship efforts that support Bethesda House’s mission of supporting women and children impacted by gender-based violence.
This role works closely with the Executive Director to support fundraising campaigns, donor relations, sponsorship development, community partnerships, and special events. The position also assists with communications and promotional activities related to fundraising and outreach initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising and Resource Development
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of fundraising campaigns and special events.
- Research and identify potential sponsors, donors, grant opportunities, and community partners.
- Support donor stewardship activities including donor communications, thank-you letters, and event invitations.
- Maintain records of sponsors, donors, and fundraising activities.
- Assist with donor pipeline management and annual fundraising planning/calendar development.
- Support the development of sponsorship packages, solicitation letters, and fundraising materials.
- Help coordinate third-party fundraising initiatives and community-led fundraising events.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director on grant proposals, funding applications, and reporting processes.
- Support efforts to meet fundraising goals and monitor event and fundraising budgets.
Event Coordination and Community Engagement
- Coordinate and execute online and in-person fundraising and community engagement events.
- Liaise with vendors, venues, community organizations, sponsors, and volunteers to support successful events.
- Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers for fundraising and outreach activities.
- Represent the organization at community events, networking opportunities, and outreach initiatives.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community partners.
- Coordinate event logistics including supplies, materials, printing, signage, and promotional items.
- Ensure fundraising and community events are welcoming, organized, and aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
- Assist in capturing event activities through photography and video when appropriate.
Donations and Donor Support
- Maintain donor databases and donor lists while ensuring confidentiality and security of donor information.
- Coordinate in-kind donation requests and communications with community partners and vendors.
- Respond to donor and supporter inquiries via email, phone, and online platforms.
- Support donation tracking, reconciliation, and reporting in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Assist with organizing donation drives and community support campaigns.
Communications Support
- Assist with the creation of promotional and fundraising materials for events and campaigns.
- Contribute content for newsletters, community updates, and fundraising communications.
- Support internal communications related to fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in fundraising, event coordination, community engagement, nonprofit administration, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience working with donors, volunteers, sponsors, or community partners
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of gender-based violence and trauma-informed/client-centered practices
- Passion for supporting women and children impacted by gender-based violence.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel within Durham Region for community events, trainings, and outreach.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $25
