MD Global Media is a Toronto-based digital media company building a fast-moving newsroom and a 24/7 streaming news channel from the ground up. Our flagship publication, Daily BD Times (dailybdtimes.com), is an independent, diaspora-first Bengali news organization serving Bangladesh and Bengalis worldwide, with multiple active and upcoming projects across publishing, video, and business services.
We're hiring an organized, execution-focused Operations Coordinator to keep that operation running. You will coordinate editorial coverage and projects, manage day-to-day operations andhiring, and give leadership clear visibility into the status of everything in motion. This is a fully remote, independent-contractor role reporting to the General Manager.
Responsibilities:
Project and editorial coordination:
- Maintain the editorial coverage calendar and coordinate planned coverage across desks and projects.
- Coordinate active and upcoming projects across editorial, business, and technical workstreams, tracking timelines, milestones, dependencies, and progress.
- Report regularly to the General Manager on the status of coordinated projects and coverage, flagging risks, blockers, and gaps early.
- Coordinate tasks and communication across contributors, editors, and the Bangladesh-based newsroom, keeping teams aligned on priorities and deadlines.
- Keep work moving across a remote, multi-timezone team by following up, coordinating, and resolving bottlenecks.
Operations, hiring, and HR:
- Run recruiting operations end to end: post job descriptions, screen and triage applicants, schedule interviews, and coordinate onboarding.
- Administer HR through an automated platform (e.g., Deel): contracts, onboarding, contractor payments, and records.
- Maintain expense, vendor, and payee records, and track spending against budgets.
- Manage executive scheduling and meeting logistics: calendars, agendas, minutes, and follow-ups.
- Maintain clear documentation and process notes for handoff and repeatability.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Proven coordination or project-management experience, ideally in media, news, publishing, or a comparable fast-moving operations environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities and report status clearly to leadership.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with clear, professional communication.
- Highly organized, proactive, and reliable, with strong follow-through and the ability to close out tasks without supervision.
- Comfortable with project/task tools, spreadsheets, and calendars, and able to learn an automated HR/operations platform quickly.
- Discreet and trustworthy with sensitive information, including personnel, compensation, and planning matters.
- Sound judgment about what to handle directly and what to escalate.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in a newsroom, digital media, or publishing environment.
- Familiarity with editorial calendars and coverage planning.
- Familiarity with project-management methods and tools.
- Experience with HR or contractor-payment platforms.
- Startup or early-stage company experience.
- Bangla language skills are a strong asset, as this role involves direct coordination with Bangladesh-based teams. Candidates will be assessed based on job-related skills, experience, and communication needs.
Engagement and Logistics:
Type: Independent contractor, fully remote (overlap with Eastern time preferred).
Hours: Part-time to full-time, depending on fit.
Compensation: Guide range CAD $1,500–$3,500 per month, depending on hours and experience.
Growth: A founding role with clear room to advance as the company scales, toward Chief of Staff to the General Manager, or a broader editorial or operations management role.-
