Job Summary
The Construction Manager is the senior leader of Henley Contracting's entire project delivery operation. Reporting directly to ownership, this role owns the full build pipeline — Design, Pre-Construction, Construction, and Warranty — and is accountable for schedule, budget, quality, and safety across every active job. As the department head for delivery, the Construction Manager leads project managers, site supervisors, and trade partners, integrating field and office to ensure every project is delivered profitably, on time, and to the Henley standard. This is a key leadership seat for an experienced builder ready to run the operational side of a growing residential contractor.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Own all project delivery across the company — Design through Pre-Construction, Construction, and Warranty — ensuring a seamless hand-off between each stage gate.
- Hold overall accountability for schedule and budget across every active job, monitoring margin versus estimate at the portfolio level and intervening early when projects drift.
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable the project management and site supervision teams; set expectations, conduct reviews, and build a high-performing delivery group.
- Direct site operations, quality control, safety, and subcontractor coordination across all projects, ensuring consistent standards from foundation to final handover.
- Oversee buyout and sub coordination, confirming scopes are bought out completely before each job starts and that trade partners are scheduled and managed effectively.
- Establish and enforce company-wide construction processes, standards, and reporting using the company's project procedures and checklists.
- Track and report on key delivery metrics — percentage of jobs on schedule, margin versus estimate, deficiencies at handover, and gross margin delivered versus plan.
- Resolve escalated site and client issues, removing obstacles for the field teams and making the final operational decision when challenges arise.
- Partner with ownership, sales, pre-construction, and finance to align delivery capacity with the company's pipeline and growth plans.
- Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all sites and the office.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in residential construction, including significant time leading project delivery and field operations.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent custom-home and renovation projects from start to finish, with full schedule and budget ownership.
- Proven leadership of project managers, site supervisors, and trade partners, with the ability to build, mentor, and hold a team accountable.
- Deep knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, sequencing, and the Ontario Building Code.
- Strong command of project budgeting, cost control, and margin management.
- Proficiency with standard residential GC software (such as BuilderTrend) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a track record of professional client interaction.
- Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience delivering high-end custom homes and projects in cottage-country / remote settings.
- Familiarity with EOS / Traction-style operating systems and scorecard-driven management.
- Relevant Ontario health-and-safety and trade certifications.
