Summary
FSN Safety Training is looking for experienced propane professionals to deliver propane safety training programs on a part-time, contract basis.
This role is specifically for trainers who are qualified, or may be qualified with additional onboarding, to teach propane-related training programs such as:
- PPO-3 – Propane Plant Operator 3 (Propane Cylinder Filling)
- CH-02 – Construction Heater Operator 2 (Propane Construction Heaters and Torches)
- Propane equipment commonly used in construction, roofing, road work, industrial, municipal, and commercial settings
This role may be a great fit for retired or semi-retired propane professionals, equipment operators, supervisors, safety professionals, or trainers who want flexible part-time work and the opportunity to earn extra income without committing to a full-time schedule.
Training assignments are offered on an as-needed basis. Some periods of the year are busier than others, and the amount of work available can vary depending on customer demand, trainer availability, location, and program qualifications.
We are especially interested in candidates based in the Greater Toronto Area.
The ideal candidate has hands-on propane experience, communicates well with adult learners, takes safety seriously, and is willing to learn FSN’s training procedures and expand into additional programs over time.
Responsibilities
- As a contract Propane Safety Trainer, you may be responsible for:
- Delivering propane safety training at customer locations
Travelling to customer sites throughout the GTA and surrounding areas, with occasional travel outside the immediate GTA
- Teaching classroom theory in a clear, professional, and engaging manner
- Conducting practical demonstrations and/or evaluations where required
- Instructing students on the safe use, handling, inspection, connection, disconnection, and operation of propane-related equipment
- Following FSN course materials, procedures, and documentation requirements
- Completing attendance sheets, evaluation forms, records of training, and related documentation accurately
- Setting up and using laptops, projectors, customer TVs, PowerPoint presentations, and related training materials
- Representing FSN professionally while working with customers and trainees
- Providing feedback to FSN on training materials, customer needs, and program improvements
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- At least two years of practical experience with propane handling, propane filling, construction heaters, torches, or related propane equipment
- Current or previous PPO-3 certification or Record of Training
- Current or previous CH-02 certification or Record of Training
- Knowledge of propane safety procedures, hazards, and safe work practices
- Experience with one or more of the following areas:
- Propane cylinder filling
- Propane construction heaters
- Propane torches
- Propane equipment used in roofing, road work, construction, industrial, or municipal settings
- Valid Class G driver’s licence
- Access to a reliable vehicle
- Strong English communication skills and comfort delivering training in English
- Ability to work independently and professionally at customer sites
- Flexibility to work part-time on an as-needed basis
- Willingness to travel to various customer locations
- Basic computer skills, including comfort using a laptop, connecting to projectors or customer TVs, presenting PowerPoint slides, entering basic information in Excel, and accessing files through Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar platforms
Advanced technical skills are not required, but candidates should be comfortable enough with computers to learn FSN’s systems and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
The following are considered assets:
- Experience teaching PPO-3, CH-02, or other propane-related safety programs
- Experience working at a propane filling station, container refill centre, propane supplier, construction site, roofing company, road work company, municipality, or industrial facility
- Previous adult education, safety training, coaching, or instructional experience
- Public speaking or classroom presentation experience
- Experience developing or improving safety training programs
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations
- Knowledge of TSSA-related propane requirements
- Ability to speak, read, or write in additional languages

Compensation
This is a contract position paid on a flat-rate per training session, plus travel expense recovery where applicable.
The number of assignments offered may vary throughout the year based on customer demand, trainer availability, location, and program qualifications.
