We are a welcoming and community-focused organization committed to reducing social isolation, strengthening wellbeing, and creating meaningful opportunities for older adults to build friendships, stay active, and participate fully in community life.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, energetic, and community-minded Program Coordinator to join our small team.
This is an opportunity to do meaningful work while directly improving the quality of life and wellbeing of older adults in our community.
Position Overview
The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering structured community-based programming for older adults, including social, physical, recreational, educational, and cognitive activities that support wellbeing, independence, social inclusion, and community participation.
This position works closely with staff, volunteers, instructors, community partners, and Club members to ensure programs remain welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and responsive to participant needs.
No two days at Good Companions look exactly the same. This role requires someone who enjoys working directly with people, thrives in a dynamic community environment, and is excited by meaningful work that makes a direct difference in people’s lives.
As part of a small non-profit organization, this position requires flexibility, initiative, professionalism, and a willingness to positively contribute across multiple areas of the organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Development & Delivery
- Coordinate and deliver structured programs and services that support older adults in remaining socially connected, active, independent, and engaged within the community
- Plan and coordinate social, recreational, educational, wellness, physical, and cognitive programming for Club members
- Develop and support new programming opportunities based on participant interests, feedback, and evolving community needs
- Ensure programming remains welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and responsive to participants of varying backgrounds, abilities, mobility levels, and experiences
- Support inclusive programming by adapting activities and ensuring participants of varying abilities and confidence levels can participate comfortably and fully
- Support participant engagement and create positive community experiences that strengthen connection, belonging, and wellbeing
Community Engagement & Social Inclusion
- Support outreach efforts designed to engage older adults who may be isolated or face barriers to participation
- Build meaningful relationships with members while creating a welcoming and community-focused environment
- Proactively identify opportunities to strengthen programming, improve member experience, and introduce new ideas that respond to the evolving needs and interests of older adults in the community
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with community organizations, sponsors, facilitators, contractors, and external partners that help strengthen programming and member engagement opportunities
Events, Volunteers & Program Coordination
- Plan and assist with special events, luncheons, workshops, community outings, educational sessions, and social functions throughout the year
- Coordinate instructors, facilitators, contractors, entertainers, and volunteers involved in program delivery
- Assist in recruiting, supporting, scheduling, and recognizing volunteers involved in Club programming and events
- Confidently facilitate and host community activities and events, including welcoming members, introducing guest presenters, making announcements, leading programs such as weekly group bingo, and helping create a warm, engaging, and enjoyable environment for participants
- Support setup, logistics, coordination, and overall participant experience during Club events and special functions
Program Evaluation & Administration
- Monitor attendance, participation levels, attendance trends, and participant feedback to support continuous program improvement
- Collect participant feedback and assist with evaluation processes that help measure program impact, improve programming quality, and support organizational reporting requirements
- Maintain accurate records related to programs, participation tracking, registrations, event coordination, and program administration
- Assist with newsletters, posters, promotional materials, website updates, social media content, and member communications
- Track participation levels and support basic program evaluation and reporting processes connected to organizational and funding requirements
Organizational Support
- Support front desk operations when needed, including memberships, answering phones, accepting payments, processing registrations, and assisting members and visitors
- Work closely with the Executive Director to support organizational priorities, implement new initiatives, assist with special projects, and contribute positively to the ongoing growth and development of the organization
- Contribute positively across multiple areas of the organization and provide operational support as required within a small non-profit environment
- Assist with general day-to-day operational needs of the organization as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who brings both professional capability and genuine heart.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in program coordination, recreation services, community development, non-profit work, or related fields
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage older adults in a welcoming and respectful manner
- Experience working with seniors or understanding barriers related to aging, mobility, accessibility, and social isolation considered a strong asset
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Experience planning, coordinating, and supporting events, community activities, workshops, social functions, or community programming
- Experience coordinating volunteers, instructors, facilitators, contractors, or community-based programs
- Confidence speaking publicly, facilitating group activities, and engaging diverse groups of participants
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to assist with newsletters, promotional materials, member communications, and general organizational correspondence
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work in a changing and dynamic environment
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and remain organized within a busy, multi-faceted community organization
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage responsibilities proactively while working collaboratively within a small team
- Demonstrates warmth, empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting older adults in a respectful, welcoming, and community-focused environment
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally, exercise sound judgment, and navigate interpersonal challenges with diplomacy, patience, and professionalism
- Comfortable working within a small and evolving organization where priorities, schedules, programming needs, and operational responsibilities may shift regularly
- Flexible and willing to work occasional evenings and Saturdays (typically 1–2 times per month) in support of special events, community programming, and organizational activities
- Demonstrates genuine interest in community-building and supporting older adults in remaining active, connected, independent, and engaged in later life
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email systems, registration systems, Canva, social media platforms, and general office technology
- Valid Driver’s License considered an asset
- Current First Aid/CPR certification considered an asset
