THE CENTRE requires a Food Services & Shelter Support Worker, RELIEF.
Candidates must be available to cover a range of shifts (e.g., 7am – 3pm; 3pm – 11pm; 11pm – 7am) between Mondays - Fridays. Individuals would only be contacted once shifts become available.
Shifts will be offered in advance with at least 2 weeks’ notice based on the absence of full-time staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
- Cooking/preparing meals, serving, and cleaning up during shift time.
- Providing emergency support to clients related to dietary, medical or safety concerns.
- Reporting to the Kitchen and Weekend Supervisor any client-related matters requiring case management services and/or follow-up.
- Performing custodial services cleaning offices, apartments, waste management and recycling.
- Ensuring all pertinent communication to other CRWC staff is reported in the organization’s Communication Logbook.
- Monitoring the security of the facility through routine checks.
- Occasionally assisting non-resident families and individuals and provide courteous referrals to City Intake and other organizations that can provide further support to secure emergency shelter.
- Amenable to handling miscellaneous custodial tasks as directed by Kitchen and Weekend Supervisor or Shelter Manager.
Person Specification.
- Relevant experience working in a cross-cultural environment within an anti-oppression framework.
- Ability to handle confidential information and manage conflict situations with skill and diplomacy.
- Ability to work with vulnerable client populations using sensitivity and respect.
- Strong availability during the weekday: Monday - Friday.
- Experience working in a shelter, community kitchen or food industry is an asset.
In accordance with the Centre’s Child Protection Policy, a satisfactory Police Reference check is required as a condition of employment.
COMPENSATION:
Hourly rate: $20.
The Centre offers a collegial work environment and is centrally located at Bloor and Christie Streets, 100 metres from Christie subway station and onsite parking is available for staff.
