Network Services Manager
Provident Security | Vancouver, BC | Full-time
The Short Version
Provident is hiring a senior network and systems professional to lead how we run our own infrastructure and how we design and support networks in some of Vancouver's finest custom homes. We're a security company, so this is network work where access control, privacy, and trust are the whole point, not the fine print. You'll work with a real team: a 24/7 Operations Centre that takes the first call, technicians who install and handle first-line support, and outside resources where they make sense. Your job is the interesting part: design, standards, the harder problems, and a major infrastructure project to lead from the start. If you want to own systems end to end instead of working a queue, this is that role.
How You'll Start
You'll begin with one clear priority: a flagship project building the next generation of how we monitor and support the technology in our clients' homes. We know where we're headed and we've done the groundwork; what it needs now is an owner to shape the details, prove the approach, and roll it out with zero client disruption. It's real infrastructure work: fleet provisioning, monitoring, and automation at scale. The rest of the role grows on the foundation this project builds, at a pace that makes sense.
What the Role Becomes
Our infrastructure. You'll look after Provident's internal environment: servers, network, and our workstation and laptop fleet, keeping it reliable, documented, and secure. It'll be yours to run and improve.
Client network design. You'll be our designer for residential client networks. When a custom home needs a network that handles security, cameras, automation, and family life without complaint, you design it; our technicians deploy it under your direction.
Managed network services. You'll lead how we keep client homes connected: proactive monitoring, remote remediation, and a service that deals with the internet provider so the client doesn't have to. You set the standards and own the hard problems; for select clients, you're the senior network expert behind their home, backed by the whole team.
A stronger team. You'll train our technicians to handle everyday network issues confidently and define the playbooks they work from, so the routine stays off your desk and the interesting problems reach it.
Who You Are
- A senior network and systems professional, 7+ years in, with strong fundamentals: VLANs, DHCP and DNS, Wi-Fi and RF design for demanding spaces, PoE, firewalls
- Security-minded by default: segmentation, VPNs and secure remote access, access control, and audit trails are how you work, not afterthoughts
- Experienced with virtualization (VMware or similar) and comfortable running a business server environment, including backups and recovery
- Comfortable in Linux, with enough bash or Python to manage devices in volume rather than one at a time
- Experienced with cloud-managed networking and monitoring platforms; strong opinions about which ones are right are welcome, and platform decisions are partly yours to make
- Polished and discreet with clients; you'll be trusted in sensitive, high-profile homes, and a clear teacher who'd rather build the team's capability than hoard it
Because we're a security company, a criminal record check and applicable security licensing are conditions of the role. Industry certifications are a nice signal, not a requirement, and we fund certifications and ongoing training. You might be a senior network engineer, systems administrator, or IT infrastructure lead at an MSP, integration firm, or IT consultancy today; if you're the person who solves the hard tickets and quietly holds the place together, we're building this role for you.
What We Offer
- $115,000 to $140,000 per year, based on experience
- Extended health and dental benefits
- Company vehicle access for client site work, plus laptop, phone, and the tools to do the job right
- Real authority over technical standards and platform decisions, with a say in how coverage and escalation are structured
- A stable, profitable, 30-year-old company and a respectful, well-organized team
To Apply
Send your resume with a cover letter telling us about a network or environment you ran for a long time: what you inherited, what you improved, and how you kept it reliable. A few honest paragraphs beat a polished essay. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
