Nanaimo Foodshare is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, and community-focused Food Skills Workshop Facilitator to deliver engaging, hands-on cooking and food skills programs for children, youth, adults, families, and seniors. If you're passionate about cooking, nutrition, community education, and local food systems, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
As our Food Skills Workshop Facilitator, you'll lead interactive cooking workshops that help participants build confidence in the kitchen, prepare nutritious meals, share experience, connect with others through food. Programs are offered year-round in community settings, with occasional online workshops and some afternoon or evening hours.
Responsibilities
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environment
- Plan menus and purchase program ingredients and supplies
- Lead cooking demonstrations and food preparation activities
- Support program planning, setup, delivery, and cleanup
- Adapt programs for participants of different, abilities, and learning styles
- Maintain food safety and kitchen sanitation standards
- Track attendance and complete basic program reports
- Represent Nanaimo Foodshare in a positive and professional manner
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who has:
- A passion for cooking, nutrition, and community engagementExperience teaching, facilitating, or leading groups
- Experience with meal planning and budgeting
- Knowledge of food preparation, food preservation, and safe food handling
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
- Confidence using Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets) and basic computer programs
- Experience working with seniors, families, or diverse community groups is an asset
- An interest in local food systems, agriculture, or community health
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence
- Successful Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Availability for afternoon and evening workshops
