Position Overview
EFI Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Mechanical Engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of commercial, institutional, and industrial projects while contributing to the continued growth of our mechanical practice.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical building systems from concept through construction. This position also provides opportunities to mentor junior staff, manage projects, develop client relationships, and help expand our mechanical engineering capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design
- Design HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations using Carrier HAP or equivalent software.
- Prepare HVAC system layouts, equipment selections, and specifications.
- Design plumbing, drainage, and domestic water systems.
- Design life safety and fire protection systems in accordance with applicable codes and client requirements.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with structural, architectural, civil, electrical, Cx, and process engineering disciplines.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide engineering support during construction.
Project Delivery
- Manage the mechanical scope of multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Develop project budgets, schedules, and work plans.
- Track project progress, budgets, and resource requirements.
- Participate in proposal preparation, fee estimates, and business development activities.
- Attend project meetings and communicate directly with clients, contractors, architects, and project stakeholders.
- Conduct site visits, condition assessments, inspections, commissioning support, and field reviews throughout project execution.
Leadership
- Lead and mentor mechanical designers and junior engineers.
- Review engineering work for technical quality and compliance with applicable standards.
- Support the continued growth and development of the mechanical engineering team.
- Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Act as the primary mechanical contact on assigned projects.
Commissioning & Energy Performance
- Support building commissioning and functional performance testing activities.
- Participate in energy-efficient system design and sustainable building initiatives.
- Contribute to energy modelling activities where applicable.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or eligible for registration in Canada.
- Minimum 5 years of consulting engineering experience.
- Experience designing mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and life safety/fire protection systems.
- Experience performing HVAC load calculations using Carrier HAP or equivalent software.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, applicable CSA standards, ASHRAE standards, and provincial energy efficiency requirements.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to clients both in person and through Microsoft Teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Assets
- High-rise building design experience.
- Experience using Autodesk Revit for BIM project delivery.
- Energy modelling experience.
- Commissioning or commissioning support experience.
- LEED, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), ASHRAE, or similar professional credentials.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00-$135,000.00 per year
