Saskatoon, SK | Established 1986
Join Our Team
Competition Muffler, Shocks, Tires & Auto Repair is looking for an experienced, organized and motivated Service Manager to join our busy 8-bay automotive repair shop.
This is a hands-on position. Our Service Manager will work directly as a Service Writer/Advisor while also overseeing the daily flow of work through all 8 service bays and helping lead our front-end operations.
We are a fast-paced, locally owned automotive repair shop that has been serving Saskatoon since 1986. We have a strong team and are looking for someone who can take ownership of the service department, communicate well with customers and technicians, and keep the entire day moving efficiently.
What You'll Be Responsible For
As our Service Manager, you will:
- Work hands-on as a Service Writer/Service Advisor
- Oversee and coordinate the daily workflow of our 8 service bays
- Manage the flow of vehicles from customer drop-off through diagnosis, approval, repair and pickup
- Work closely with technicians to keep jobs moving efficiently
- Prioritize jobs based on appointments, customer commitments, parts availability and technician workload
- Ensure technicians have the information and parts they need to complete their work
- Monitor the progress of jobs throughout the day and adjust the schedule when necessary
- Keep track of vehicles that must be completed or picked up by the end of the day
- Communicate with customers regarding inspections, estimates, recommended repairs and job progress
- Prepare accurate estimates and obtain customer authorization before work proceeds
- Quote parts and labour accurately
- Assist with sourcing and ordering parts
- Review technician recommendations and inspection results
- Ensure parts, labour, shop supplies, freight and other applicable charges are properly included on work orders
- Review completed work orders for accuracy before customers are invoiced
- Assist with answering phones and booking appointments
- Help manage the daily appointment schedule and shop capacity
- Coordinate with other Service Advisors and front-end staff
- Delegate front-end responsibilities when required
- Help resolve customer concerns professionally
- Maintain strong communication between the front counter, technicians, parts suppliers and management
- Identify workflow problems before they cause delays
- Help maintain productivity and efficiency throughout the shop
- Ensure customers receive professional, friendly and timely service
- Lead by example and help create a positive, team-oriented workplace
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Previous automotive Service Advisor/Service Writer experience is preferred; however, candidates who have successfully completed a recognized Automotive Service Advisor/Service Writer program or course are encouraged to apply. We are willing to consider the right candidate who has the education, automotive knowledge, strong organizational skills and desire to grow into the Service Manager role.
- Has a strong understanding of automotive repair and terminology
- Understands how to effectively manage workflow in a busy automotive repair facility
- Is comfortable coordinating multiple technicians and jobs at the same time
- Can confidently communicate repair recommendations to customers
- Has strong estimating and quoting abilities
- Understands parts ordering and sourcing
- Has excellent attention to detail
- Understands the importance of accurate invoicing and protecting the shop's profitability
- Can prioritize and make decisions in a fast-moving environment
- Is organized and able to follow jobs from beginning to completion
- Is comfortable providing direction and holding the front-end team accountable
- Communicates well with both customers and technicians
- Is dependable, professional and takes ownership of their responsibilities
- Understands that teamwork and communication are critical to running an efficient shop
This Position Is About Keeping the Entire Shop Moving
With 8 service bays, organization and communication are extremely important.
Our Service Manager needs to know what is happening throughout the shop: what vehicles are waiting for diagnosis, what estimates need customer approval, what parts have been ordered, what technicians are working on, what jobs are falling behind and what vehicles have been promised for pickup.
The goal is to keep our technicians productive, our front counter organized and our customers informed.
This is not strictly a service management position and it is not strictly a Service Writer position. You will be actively working with customers and writing service while managing the overall daily workflow of the shop alongside the other service writers and foreman.
