We are seeking an experienced Kitchen Head / Chef to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children while ensuring the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with the school's weekly menu.
- Assisting with menu planning and accommodating food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special dietary requirements.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment at all times.
- Ensuring compliance with all public health, food safety, and childcare licensing regulations.
- Managing food inventory, ordering supplies, and minimizing food waste.
- Monitoring food storage, handling, and preparation procedures in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Maintaining accurate records related to food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and allergy management.
- Coordinating meal schedules with classroom staff and centre management.
- Ensuring kitchen equipment is maintained and operated safely.
- Participating in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Supporting special events and centre activities when needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Should Possess
- Minimum one year of experience as a Cook, Chef, or Kitchen Lead, preferably in a childcare centre, school, or institutional setting.
- Valid Food Handler Certification.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and allergy management practices.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food quality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and management.
- A valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- First Aid and CPR Certification would be considered an asset.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
