OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Facility Locator to join our growing team in Edmonton, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately locating and marking underground facilities, maintaining detailed documentation, and providing exceptional service to clients across the Edmonton Metropolitan Region and surrounding communities.
This position is ideal for a motivated professional with approximately five years of utility locating experience who is looking to advance their career with a respected geomatics and infrastructure services company.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform accurate underground utility and facility locates for gas, power, telecommunications, water, sewer, and other buried infrastructure.
- Utilize electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and GPS/GIS technologies to identify and map underground facilities.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, utility records, as-builts, GIS data, and site plans.
- Complete locate sketches, field notes, reports, and digital documentation to company and client standards.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, utility owners, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with USP (Utility Safety Partners) requirements and industry best practices.
- Maintain and calibrate locating equipment and company vehicles.
- Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and daily field safety activities.
- Assist with mentoring junior locators when required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of utility locating or facility locating experience.
- Well-rounded experience locating and identifying underground utility infrastructure and oil and gas facilities, including pipelines, distribution systems, telecommunications, electrical, water, and wastewater networks.
- Strong knowledge of underground utility infrastructure, oil and gas assets, damage prevention practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with electromagnetic locating equipment, GPS systems, GIS applications, and GPR technology.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, utility records, as-built drawings, pipeline documentation, and GIS mapping.
- Experience working on municipal, industrial, commercial, and energy sector projects is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Physically capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Safety Certificates (CSTS 2020, Standard First Aid/CPR, and Utility locating certifications (UALL, TALL, PALL Locating 101, or equivalent)) is required and will be provided as necessary.
