Position: Part-time
Hours: After school, between 3:00 PM–8:00 PM
We are a structured academic support program based in Markham, supporting OSSD students in Grades 9–12 with long-term academic and GPA management.
We are currently seeking a responsible, experienced, and detail-oriented OSSD English Tutor to join our after-school academic support team.
This is not simply a homework-help position. Our tutors work closely with students to understand course expectations, improve academic writing, manage assignments, prepare for assessments, and maintain strong academic performance throughout the school year.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide academic support for Grade 9–12 OSSD English courses
- Break down assignments based on teacher-provided rubrics and assessment criteria
- Support students with essay writing, literary analysis, reading comprehension, presentations, and other course assignments
- Strengthen students’ academic writing skills, including thesis development, organization, evidence, analysis, and revision
- Track assignments, tests, and overall course progress
- Identify academic risks and areas for improvement early
- Support students in preparing for final exams and culminating assessments
- Provide regular written feedback on student progress
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above; English, Education, Humanities, or a related field preferred
- Minimum 3 year of high school English teaching or tutoring experience
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Secondary School (OSSD) English curriculum
- Familiarity with rubric-based assessment and academic writing expectations
- Excellent English communication and writing skills
- Responsible, patient, organized, and detail-oriented
- Able to work within a structured academic management system
Preferred Qualifications
- Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT)
- Experience teaching OSSD English courses, particularly ENG3U and ENG4U
- Experience with OSSLT preparation and Ontario literacy requirements
- Experience supporting final exams and culminating assignments
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin is an asset
