Role: Compliance and Food Safety Coordinator
Reports to: Compliance and Food Safety Lead
Under the direction of: Senior Quality Assurance and Regulatory Manager
Job Summary:
The Compliance and Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for managing and maintaining documentation related to food safety programs, regulatory requirements, and third-party certifications. This role ensures that all records, procedures, and supporting documents are maintained and updated to support compliance with food safety standards, certification schemes, and regulatory authorities. The position supports audit preparation and ensures that the company remains compliant with all applicable food safety and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and organize documentation related to food safety programs and certification requirements.
- Support compliance with food safety certification schemes, including: BRCGS Food Safety, USDA Organic Certification, Non-GMO Project Verification, and Kosher Certification.
- Maintain records and documentation required to demonstrate compliance with regulatory authorities such as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
- Support the development, review, and maintenance of food safety programs, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans and prerequisite programs.
- Prepare and maintain audit documentation and ensure all records are readily available for internal and external audits.
- Track certification renewals, document updates, and regulatory submissions to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Maintain food safety records such as monitoring logs, verification records, and corrective action documentation.
- Support internal audits and assist in coordinating third-party and regulatory inspections.
- Assist in maintaining policies, procedures, and work instructions related to quality and food safety systems.
- Follow up on corrective actions resulting from audits or compliance reviews and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
- Work closely with QA, production, and management teams to ensure documentation reflects current operations and compliance requirements.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or a related field is preferred.
- 2–3 years of experience in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, or food safety documentation in the food industry.
- Strong knowledge of food safety systems, certification standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Strong organizational and documentation management skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple compliance programs simultaneously.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Experience in MS Suite - Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of tools, concepts, and methodologies of QA
