Corporate & Commercial Real Estate Legal Assistant
Compensation & Work Arrangement
- Salary: $55,000–$75,000 annually, based on experience
- Benefits effective from Day 1
- 3 weeks’ vacation
- Location: Downtown Toronto
- Fully onsite for the first 6 weeks of employment, with the possibility of transitioning to a hybrid schedule thereafter.
About the Opportunity
A reputable downtown Toronto law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join its Corporate & Commercial Real Estate team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in producing high-quality work, and enjoys supporting a collaborative legal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support corporate and commercial transaction files, including corporate searches, PPSA summaries, closing agendas, and preparation of closing documentation and report books
- Draft, revise, and format legal documents and agreements, including shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, leases, security documents, and other commercial contracts
- Conduct title and off-title searches and coordinate title insurance matters with insurers
- Review and organize due diligence materials, contracts, and supporting transaction documentation
- Prepare and maintain transaction summaries and project tracking documents
- Assist with commercial leasing matters, including lease preparation, renewals, amendments, and lease summaries
- Manage commercial real estate transactions from file opening through closing, including requisition correspondence, closing documentation, lender conditions, and reporting letters
- Assist with commercial financing transactions, including preparation and review of financing and security documentation
- Maintain legal files and complete administrative tasks such as conflict checks, file openings, wire transfers, cheque requisitions, and internal documentation
- Draft correspondence, emails, and letters, including transcription and dictation
- Utilize legal software and document management systems such as Teraview, Conveyancer, MatterSphere, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and related applications
- Provide general administrative and legal support as required
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Law Clerk
- Completion of a Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma program
- Strong experience with commercial real estate transactions
- Hands-on experience preparing and registering Teraview documents
- Knowledge of title insurance procedures and documentation
- Experience with Corp-link and Cyberbahn is considered an asset
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
