Full-Time | Brooks, Alberta | Supporting Brooks & Medicine Hat Operations
Brooks Towing & Auto Parts is looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic / Tow Truck Operator to join our team.
This is a unique position for someone who enjoys being a mechanic but doesn't necessarily want to spend every day in the shop.
The position will be approximately 50% mechanical work and 50% towing, providing plenty of variety. You'll help maintain and repair our fleet of tow trucks and equipment and operate tow trucks and respond to calls when needed.
The position will be based in Brooks but will also provide mechanical and operational support to our Medicine Hat operations as required. This may include travelling to Medicine Hat to service or repair equipment, assisting with towing operations, and helping keep our fleet operating reliably across both locations. A company vehicle will be provided for work-related travel between locations.
Compensation:
We pay different rates depending on the work you're performing:
- $40/hour – Mechanical work
- $45/hour – Towing during regular business hours
- $50/hour – Towing outside regular business hours
Full benefits package after successful completion of a 3-month trial period.
What You'll Be Doing - Mechanical:
- Maintain and repair our fleet of light, medium and heavy-duty tow trucks
- Support fleet maintenance for both our Brooks and Medicine Hat operations
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and air-system problems
- Perform repairs and help minimize fleet downtime
- Travel between Brooks and Medicine Hat when required for maintenance, repairs or operational support
- Identify potential problems before they result in breakdowns
- Maintain service and maintenance records
- Assist with roadside repairs when required
Towing & Recovery:
- Operate tow trucks for local and highway calls
- Assist with towing operations in both the Brooks and Medicine Hat service areas when required
- Transport vehicles and equipment
- Respond to roadside calls and recoveries
- Participate in after-hours towing as required
- Safely load, secure and transport vehicles and equipment
- Deal professionally with customers, police, roadside assistance providers and other agencies
Previous towing experience is an asset, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right mechanic in the towing side of the position.
Who We're Looking For:
Ideally, you are:
- A Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician, or an experienced apprentice
- Experienced with diesel trucks and heavy-duty equipment
- Comfortable diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, air brake and mechanical problems
- Dependable and able to work independently
- Mechanically minded and good at troubleshooting
- Comfortable working both in the shop and out on the road
- Willing to travel between Brooks and Medicine Hat when required
- Safety conscious
- Professional and friendly when dealing with customers
- Able to participate in an after-hours/on-call rotation
- In possession of a valid driver's licence with an acceptable driver's abstract
Class 1 or Class 3 licence and CVIP certification are assets, but we encourage qualified mechanics without towing experience to apply.
Why This Position Is Different:
If you're tired of doing the same thing in a shop every day, this position offers something different.
You'll have the opportunity to look after a fleet, operate the equipment you maintain, work across our Brooks and Medicine Hat operations, get out of the shop regularly, and handle a wide variety of work.
We're looking for someone who takes pride in keeping equipment in good condition and wants to become an important part of our operation.
