Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Live Seafood Tank Technician to join our team. This role involves maintaining optimal conditions for live seafood, ensuring quality standards, and supporting the overall health of aquatic species in our tanks. The ideal candidate will possess strong analysis skills and a passion for marine life. This position offers an engaging environment where attention to detail and technical expertise are essential for success.
Pay is based on a flat rate per Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) visits. Service calls are at a rate of $60 per hour plus travel time in most cases.
Duties
- Monitor and maintain live seafood tanks, ensuring water turbidity, temperature, ammonia, nitrite and salinity levels meet specified standards
- Conduct regular inspections of aquatic species for signs of health issues or stress
- Collect and record data related to water parameters, species behavior, and tank conditions for analysis and reporting purposes
- Perform quality control checks to ensure seafood meets safety and freshness standards while adhering to provincial guidelines
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions or environmental issues within the tanks
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of tanks and surrounding areas to prevent contamination
- Collaborate with team members to optimize tank conditions and improve overall seafood quality
- Document all procedures, observations, and maintenance activities accurately
Requirements
- Prior experience or background in marine biology, aquaculture, or related fields is preferred
- Strong analysis skills with the ability to interpret data accurately
- Knowledge of quality control procedures relevant to live seafood handling
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations related to water chemistry and environmental measurements
- Experience with data collection tools and recordkeeping systems
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to monitoring tank conditions
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Basic physical stamina to perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks involving standing, bending, or lifting equipment or supplies
- Ability to converse with customers and explain problems, solutions and outcomes
Pay: Up to $60.00 per hour
