Contract Household Assistant (Cook/Cleaner)
Full Time Contract (6 months with potential extension up to 12 months)

Overview:
Crisis Centre North Bay is looking for two energetic, independent professionals with a strong work ethic to work as a Household Assistant in our Housing and Homelessness Programs on a contract basis. The Housing and Homelessness Programs provide accommodation as well as referrals and wrap around services from community partners to promote housing stability and wellness for individuals and families who are experiencing short term or chronic homelessness and/ or fleeing a domestic violence situation.
The Household Assistant will be responsible, under direction of the Program Supervisor(s), for meal planning, purchasing and preparation for lunch and dinner Sunday to Saturday and for clients in emergency overflow. They will be responsible to ensure compliance with all health and safety standards related to meal preparation and kitchen cleanliness/sanitization per local Public Health regulations. This person(s) will participate in general household cleaning such as bedroom sanitization, cleaning of common areas and laundry of program linens as needed.
This is a non-unionized contract in a unionized environment.
Hours of Operation:
The Household Assistants will provide support services 40 hours per week. The regular schedule will be a rotating day shift of 12-hour shifts on weekdays and weekends.
Qualifications:
· Secondary School Diploma or equivalency certificate.
· Experience planning for and preparing meals for a large number of people.
· Confidence working in an environment with persons who may be living with mental health and addictions challenges who are experiencing homelessness or in a DV shelter.
· Knowledge of menu planning and grocery shopping in bulk.
· Ability to understand and work within a set budget
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment which can be physically demanding
· Ability to perform physical duties and household tasks such as stripping and making beds, sweeping/mopping, disinfecting surfaces, laundry, grocery shopping, sorting and storing various donations, multiple flights of stairs.
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Excellent communication skills; both verbal and in written format
· Excellent judgement
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Experience in a residential setting or social service setting would be considered an asset.
· Safe Food Handling Certification (we would assist in getting the applicant this training if need be)
· Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check required.
· Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle would be considered an asset.
Rate of Pay: $21.74/hour
