The Role
The Community Support Worker will work to enrich the opportunities and daily life activities for a woman who lives with disability (“supported member”). This position is a one–to-one support work role for a woman who lives in a long-term care home near the Jane and Eglinton area of Toronto.
Compensation
Hourly wage starts at 23.34 an hour.
Hours
The NABORS member is currently seeking a Community Support Worker for 25-30 hours per week with the goal of eventually taking on additional responsibilities of coordinator.

· Comfort with occasional personal care support
Key Responsibilities:
· Assists the supported member to maintain a living space within her long-term care home where she has maximum control over her environment, her activities, and her associations; where she can feel safe and secure; where she can welcome friends and family
· Supports the member’s health needs PSW care is provided at the Long Term Care, this role is to be complimentary, with a focus on creating community, safety and building relationship
· Assists in relationship building by the development of and support to natural relationships within the member’s family, friends, and community
· Finds and encourages valued roles for the member within her long-term care home, and community life
· Supports the member in pursuing her goals with the assistance of the support circle
· Liaises with supported member’s family, circle friends, support staff, medical personnel and others as required
· Supports the member with augmentative communication strategies
Preferred Experience:
· Experience supporting individuals with disabilities
· Knowledge of Acquired Brain Injury and Epilepsy
· Knowledge of Social Role Valorization (SRV)
· Understanding and appreciation of NABORS mission, vision and principles
· Knowledge of augmentative communication is considered an asset
· Flexibility as position requires varied support hours including potential overnight and weekend support
· Ability to implement creative strategies to help deescalate situations of potential conflict
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
· Excellent organizational skills
Location: Jane and Eglinton
This position reports to the supported member’s circle of family and unpaid friends.
The hiring is conditional upon clearing a Vulnerable Sector Police check. Emergency First Aid & CPR will be required.
