Level 2 CWB Welding Inspector
Tentative dates: Sept 15 – Sept 30, 2026
DSP Rate: $90/hr
Employee Rate: $60/hr
Shift: 12-hour days, 2-week duration
LOA: $200/day
Truck Allowance: $100/day
Location: onsite CNRL Horizon, Wood Buffalo region, near Fort McKay AB.
D&A Clearance required for site access
Position Summary
The CWB Level 2 Welding Inspector to oversee structural steel fabrication and installation activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-weld, in-process, and final visual inspections of welded construction.
- Verify welding activities comply with approved drawings, WPS, project specifications, CWB requirements, and applicable codes/standards.
- Inspect weld fit-up, preparation, preheat, weld size, profile, workmanship, and finished welds.
- Identify, document, and follow up on weld defects, deficiencies, repairs, and non-conformances.
- Review welding, welder qualification, material, and NDT documentation for compliance and traceability.
- Coordinate with welders, supervisors, QA/QC personnel, engineers, NDT technicians, and project management.
- Complete accurate inspection reports, weld maps, NCRs, and quality documentation.
- Maintain a safe, professional, and independent approach to inspection activities on construction sites and/or fabrication facilities.
Key Requirements
- Current CWB Level 2 Welding Inspector certification
- Welding Inspector Visual Acuity Record
- H2S Alive, CSO or BSO or CSTS-09
- Minimum experience required to maintain Level 2 certification, with practical welding inspection experience in construction/fabrication environments.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, weld discontinuities, welding symbols, WPS requirements, and inspection methods.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable codes/standards.
- Ability to accurately measure, evaluate, document, and report welding quality and deficiencies.
- Strong communication, attention to detail, organization, and technical judgment.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in an active construction environment.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Construction safety training and NDT qualifications are considered assets
