Join Caltech as a GIS Technician and contribute to a wide range of exciting and impactful projects! As a GIS Technician, you will be responsible for the management, analysis, manipulation, and presentation of GIS data and mapping. This role will work on an array of projects including well sites, pipelines, utilities, infrastructure, and land development.
What You’ll Do
- Create maps and visualizations to present geospatial information in a clear and visually appealing manner
- Ensure adherence to production standards, procedures, and data quality and integrity across all projects
- Manage, translate, and maintain complex survey/geographic digital data sets
- Perform spatial queries, statistical analysis, or modeling to identify patterns, relationships, or trends within the data
- Maintain and update GIS databases, ensuring that data is current and accurate
- Apply metadata standards and guidelines to ensure consistent and comprehensive metadata records
- Update metadata records to reflect changes in data or project requirements
- Integrate and merge different types of spatial data from multiple sources into a unified GIS database
- Convert data from different formats, coordinate systems, or projections to ensure compatibility and consistency
- Assist in creating GIS standards and procedures documentation
What You Bring
- Diploma or degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field
- Experience with widely used GIS software (QGIS and ArcGIS)
- Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD products
- Experience with database management systems and different database formats
- Experience with common map projections and coordinate systems
- Experience with software development environments and languages (Visual Studio, Python, C#, etc.)
- Experience with geospatial datasets (raster and vector) and common file formats
- Strong attention to detail; ability to ensure drawings conform to specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret information from survey plans, maps, field notes, and typical job set-up search results
- Understanding of regulatory requirements of upstream oil and gas-related survey work
- Ability to effectively transition survey and plan information into digital and/or paper survey plans and as-built deliverables
