Ready to be Part of Something Extraordinary?. Join a great Electronics Manufacturing Service’s (EMS) company in a state-of-the-art purpose-built facility at Glenlyon Business Park in Burnaby. Dorigo Systems Ltd. is focused on achieving positive changes in everything we do for our customers. We are a manufacturer of technology products, from surface mount to full box build, for innovative design and manufacturing companies in North America.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented SMT Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining surface mount technology (SMT) equipment, including pick-and-place machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens, to ensure efficient and accurate production of electronic assemblies. The SMT Operator will interpret work instructions and technical documentation, perform routine inspections and quality checks, troubleshoot minor equipment issues, and ensure all products meet quality and safety standards. The role also involves maintaining proper documentation and collaborating with team members to support smooth and efficient production processes.
Responsibilities:
- Line Setup and Operation
- Perform product changeovers per the SMED standard: kit verification, feeder loading, stencil and squeegee setup, program load, and first-article submission.
- Load, verify, and run machine programs; confirm correct revision, feeder assignments, and nozzle configuration before release to run.
- Operate the screen printer, SPI, placement machines, reflow oven, and AOI to the documented process parameters. Do not adjust parameters outside the approved window without Engineering authorization.
- Monitor SPI and AOI results in real time; correct root causes (print offset, feeder pickup, nozzle wear) rather than passing defects downstream.
- Transact all jobs accurately in the MES (Factory Logix): start/stop, quantities, downtime reason codes,
- Record hour-by-hour output against target; report deviations to the Team Leader within the hour.
Autonomous / first-line maintenance — owned by the Operator:
- Execute daily, weekly, and monthly PM checklists for assigned equipment and sign off in the maintenance log; flag any missed or overdue task before the shift ends.
- Screen printer: clean stencils and under stencil wiper system, verify/replenish cleaning solvent, inspect squeegee blades for wear or damage, verify vision fiducial recognition, maintain support tooling and vacuum cups.
- Pick-and-place: clean and inspect nozzles daily, verify vacuum levels, check nozzle changer stations, clean camera lenses and lighting, clear reject bins, verify conveyor rails and belt condition, lubricate per OEM schedule.
- Feeders: perform routine feeder cleaning, inspection, and calibration on rotation; remove and tag suspect feeders (pickup errors, tape advance faults) and route them to the feeder maintenance station rather than returning them to stock.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of recurring faults (pickup errors, misregistration, conveyor jams, sensor faults) and document the corrective action taken.
- Escalate faults beyond first-line scope — electrical, pneumatic, mechanical repair, calibration outside tolerance, safety-related — to Maintenance/Engineering immediately, with a clear description of the fault, the machine state, and the steps already attempted.
- Track and report downtime accurately by cause; participate in root-cause reviews for repeat failures on your line.
Qualifications and Skills:
- The successful candidate should ideally have two years experience with pick-and-place equipment
- Preferred to have strong Printed Circuit Board assembly skills (SMT and PTH), along with good computer literacy and the equivalent of a high school diploma
- Should have the ability to read and comprehend assembly documentation and drawings
- Knowledge of colour codes, electronic component identification and IPC-A-610 is strongly preferred
- Knowledge with SMT Machine Programming software is an asset
- Knowledge of Pana-Pro and DGS software is an asset
- Should have excellent attention to detail and good hand-eye coordination
- Continuous improvement mindset
