Overview
M&S Architectural Ltd is hiring a Junior Estimator to join our team in Newmarket, Ontario. This is a full-time, in-office role supporting estimating and preconstruction work for commercial, municipal, and residential landscape construction projects. We’re looking for someone who can produce accurate takeoffs, keep work organized and traceable, communicate clearly when questions or risks arise, and grow into greater independence within a structured management review process.
Duties
- Review civil, landscape, and architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents for commercial, municipal, and residential projects
- Complete accurate quantity takeoffs with clear backup, marked-up support, and traceability
- Support estimate preparation using company spreadsheets, templates, LMN, and estimating systems
- Track addenda, bid requirements, tender forms, and submission details
- Maintain organized bid files, pricing backup, naming conventions, and version control for active bids
- Request, track, and organize supplier and subcontractor pricing and follow up on outstanding quotes
- Flag missing information, drawing/spec conflicts, scope gaps, and risks early
- Prepare assumptions, clarifications, exclusions, and risk notes so estimating work is review-ready and usable for handoff
What we're looking for
- Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, self-motivation, and ability to work within defined estimating standards
- Strong organization, time management, and file-discipline habits
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with structured templates and estimating systems
- Able to read and interpret drawings and specifications with increasing independence
- Clear communicator who raises questions early when something is unclear or could affect cost, scope, or submission timing
- Able to manage multiple priorities, track deadlines, and keep work review-ready
Preferred background
- Diploma or degree in landscape, construction, architecture, architectural technology, or a related field is an asset
- 1–3 years of estimating, takeoff, preconstruction, construction administration, or related experience preferred
- Equivalent practical experience will also be considered
- Experience with Bluebeam is an asset
- Experience supporting bids or estimates in commercial, municipal, and residential construction is an asset
- Experience in landscape construction, sitework, or a construction-related environment is preferred
- Experience with LMN is an asset; willingness to learn is required
Pay: $26.00-$30.00 per hour
