POSITION TITLE : Part Time - Security Guard – Supportive Housing Program
(Relief / On Call Basis) – 1 Year Contract
PAY RATE : $20.56 per Hour
REPORTS TO : Manager, Housing Programs

POSITION SUMMARY
Security Guards provide surveillance and safety support for clients, visitors, and staff during overnight weekday shifts. The Security Guard is responsible for monitoring and controlling access to the CAMH Program site, monitoring and reviewing the surveillance systems, provide footage to TPS as needed, responding to emergencies, enforcing rules, ensuring that the unit environment remains safe and secure in alignment with Accreditation standards, particularly those related to workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and client-centred care.
This role supports Madison’s compliance with Accreditation Canada Qmentum standards, particularly those within:
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Workplace Violence Prevention
- Emergency and Disaster Management
- Client- and Family-Centred Care
- Leadership and Governance Standards (including risk identification and mitigation)
This position reports to the Supportive Housing Program Manager and may also receive direction from the management team on Operations matters, funding, or operational concerns.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND RELATED TASKS
1. Organizational
- Provide interior and perimeter security surveillance, maintaining logs in accordance with risk management and incident reporting standards.
- Conduct environmental scan and unit searches as required for security screening, while maintaining trauma-informed, respectful interactions with clients.
- Perform regular overnight patrols of the building and monitoring surveillance camera, documenting and resolving security and safety concerns.
- Participate in organizational initiatives to support diversity, inclusion, and psychological safety in the workplace, aligning with People-Centred Care standards.
- Ensure adherence to Accreditation Canada's standards on Workplace Violence Prevention by identifying, de-escalating, and reporting aggressive or high-risk situations.
2. Administrative
- Maintain logs, incident reports, and communications in line with confidentiality protocols and safety reporting procedures as per the quality standards.
- Ensure the crisis response plan and fire evacuation plans are up to date, accessible, and practiced regularly in line with Emergency and Disaster Management standards.
- Communicate safety trends and escalating risks to the Program Manager promptly.
- Be accessible by mobile phone throughout each shift to respond to building staff and client needs.
3. Professional Development
- Set and review annual professional development goals with supervisor, aligning with continuous quality improvement standards.
- Participate in required health and safety training, including W.H.M.I.S., fire safety, and infection control protocols.
- Attend internal and external training related to mental health, harm reduction, and crisis intervention, especially those required under Accreditation Canada's Safety Culture and Education standards.
- Remain up to date with Madison’s policies, procedures, and accreditation compliance practices.
4. Other
- Support and contribute to a culture of safety and respect within a diverse, inclusive, and recovery-focused housing program.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Supportive Housing Program Manager or management team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 education; post-secondary diploma in law enforcement or related field preferred.
- Completion of a recognized 2-year Community College Law Enforcement Program.
- Must possess valid Ontario Security License under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005.
- A minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in a security role, preferably within health care or mental health settings.
- Understanding of and ability to implement Accreditation Canada standards related to infection prevention, safety, and emergency response.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies, de-escalate volatile situations, and complete accurate incident reports.
- Strong interpersonal communication and crisis intervention skills, with demonstrated cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed practice.
- Familiarity with workplace health and safety legislation, W.H.M.I.S., and fire/emergency protocols.
- Computer literacy and the ability to work independently during overnight shifts.
- Bilingualism (French/English) or fluency in additional languages is considered an asset.

- Naloxone Administration & Overdose Response Training
- Trauma-Informed Care Training
- Motivational Interviewing Training
- WHMIS & Occupational Health & Safety Training
- Valid Ontario G-Class Driver’s License considered an asset

- Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy standards in accordance with PHIPA, MFIPPA, organizational policies, and professional ethical standards.
- Ensure all client information, records, and communications are handled securely and appropriately.
WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT
This role operates within a high-acuity supportive housing environment serving individuals with complex mental health, addictions, behavioural, and social challenges.
Employees may encounter:
- Mental health crises and emotional dysregulation
- Substance use and overdose situations
- Verbal aggression, threats, or behavioural escalation
- Exposure to second-hand smoke and substance use environments
- Unsanitary living conditions, pests, bed bugs, bodily fluids, and environmental hazards
- Clients experiencing psychosis, trauma responses, paranoia, or instability
- High-pressure situations requiring immediate response and critical decision-making
- Frequent interruptions, competing priorities, and crisis-driven workflow

HOURS OF WORK
- This position is classified as “Part-Time”. Your position is also a “relief” position, meaning that your schedule will vary from week to week and there is no minimum guarantee of hours in any week.
- Ability to work in high-demand, crisis-responsive environments is essential
- Travel between Madison program sites and community locations may occasionally be required
