Fireplace Installer / G2 Gas Technician
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Fireplace Installer / G2 Gas Technician to join our growing team.
This is a hands-on position focused primarily on the installation, service, troubleshooting, and repair of gas fireplaces and related equipment. The ideal candidate takes pride in their workmanship, understands the importance of code-compliant installations, and is comfortable working directly with homeowners, contractors, and other trades.
Our projects range from straightforward fireplace replacements to new construction and renovation installations. We are looking for someone who can work independently, solve problems in the field, and consistently deliver a professional finished product.
Responsibilities
- Install gas fireplaces, inserts, stoves, and related equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and applicable codes.
- Install and modify approved fireplace venting systems and terminations.
- Install and connect gas piping and appliance connections as permitted under G2 certification.
- Perform fireplace start-ups, testing, commissioning, and safety checks.
- Diagnose and repair gas fireplaces and related components.
- Perform routine maintenance and service on gas fireplaces and appliances.
- Read and interpret installation manuals, schematics, technical drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
- Identify installation issues and develop practical, code-compliant solutions in the field.
- Coordinate with contractors, homeowners, and other trades when required.
- Explain fireplace operation, controls, maintenance, and basic safety procedures to customers.
- Complete work orders, service documentation, inspection information, and job records accurately.
- Maintain tools, equipment, service vehicles, and job sites in a clean and professional manner.
- Protect customers’ homes and property while completing installations and service work.
- Maintain a clean work area and remove installation-related debris upon completion.
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable gas codes and regulations.
Qualifications
- Valid Ontario G2 Gas Technician certificate required.
- Previous gas fireplace installation and/or service experience strongly preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Comfortable reading technical manuals, installation instructions, and diagrams.
- Knowledge of gas piping, venting systems, appliance clearances, and installation requirements.
- Construction or renovation experience is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Professional and respectful when working in customers’ homes.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Physically capable of lifting and maneuvering fireplaces, equipment, tools, and materials associated with installations.
Additional Experience Considered an Asset
Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial:
- Wood-burning fireplace or stove installation
- WETT certification
- HVAC or sheet-metal work
- Chimney and venting installation
- Framing and general carpentry
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Renovation and finishing work
- Fireplace service and diagnostics
