JOB FUNCTION:
Coordinates activities of engineering, tool design, purchasing, and other departments, to facilitate production or procurement of tooling: Evaluates tooling orders received from production engineering department to determine whether tooling should be manufactured in-house or procured form outside vendor. Examines blueprint to determine tool requirements and special materials or items to be ordered. Calculates and records tool requirement data on tooling order, and routes order to tool design or purchasing department.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related technical field.
Program Manager (experience in design feasibility and tooling processes) Tool Design background Prior experience designing and tooling parts in a manufacturing environment.
Strong math and problem-solving skills
Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Proficiency with computers and standard drafting software
Experience with CAD.
Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
Must have knowledge of plastic part design, processing and equipment.
Must be able to assume leadership role when necessary.
Must be able to function well in a multi-skilled engineering team environment.
Must have experience in supporting the design and construction of injection and foam tools.
Strong team player with ability to work both independently and as a team member.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Typical working hours are 8:00AM to 4:30PM unless otherwise required.
RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Tooling Support for INOAC Plants in Etobicoke Ontario, and San Juan Del Rio Mexico.
Regular review of all part designs with design/product engineers to ensure they are manufacture-able and tool-able for maximum tool life and process capability.
Leads the supplier selection process for in-house and supplier tools for INOAC programs. (e.g.: Injection Tools, Inspection Gauges, Welding & Assembly Equipment etc.)
Maintain a master corporate tooling list, track progress of payment timing, follow-up with Engineering Team for making sure all tooling invoicing preparation is done.
Add tooling information as required in Customer Portals (example: VTAM etc.)
Travel to INOAC plants, suppliers and Customers in USA, Canada & Mexico is a MUST requirement.
Contacts tool room, purchasing, receiving, or personnel to follow up on procurement or production activities and to expedite movement of tools between departments or vendors.
Maintains manual or computerized records of tooling procurement status, and disposition information.
Examines tools and tool records to determine disposition of tools.
Processes requests for tool repair.
May transport tooling between departments or vendors to expedite handling.
Reviews and approves all component supplier tool-shop selections prior to award of business to them.
Prepares requisitions to items to be purchased.
Reviews all in-house Tool designs to ensure they are built to ITS standards and ITS plant specifications.
Reviews of all component supplier tool designs to ensure they are built to acceptable standards with no risk to the customer.
Follows the in-house and component supplier tool builds to ensure completion on time and within budget.
Weekly tool progress reporting of all program tools.
Reporting, tracking and resolution of program tooling open issues list.
Evaluates all proposed engineering changes to confirm tool-able, approve cost/timing and coordinate all necessary tasks with tool-shop and production plant.
Resolves all dimensional issues related to tools and process to ensure customer PPAP approval.
Develops the related core manufacturing process to meet our productivity targets for successful launch.
Establishes a tool preventative maintenance schedule and required spare parts list for all program tools.
Reviews and updates tooling standards.
Knows and follows established job specific and facility wide health and safety procedures and rules.
Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
