Job Summary
The Site Superintendent will oversee field operations for commercial construction projects, including site coordination, scheduling, safety, quality control, cost awareness, trade management, and project reporting. Working closely with project teams, clients, contractors, and trades, this position plays a key role in ensuring construction activities are completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with approved plans, specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily site operations, including field staff, contractors, trades, materials, equipment, and construction activities
- Participate in pre-construction, project start-up, and job-site meetings to support planning, scheduling, and project execution
- Monitor project progress, schedule commitments, labour requirements, material needs, inspections, and site reporting
- Ensure work is completed according to approved plans, drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements
- Promote and enforce company health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Support cost control related to labour, equipment, materials, and overall site productivity
- Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to field teams, contractors, and trades on-site
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, trades, and internal project teams
- Identify constructability issues, resolve site challenges, and support practical solutions to keep projects moving forward
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial construction experience as a Site Superintendent
- Comprehensive knowledge of current construction practices, drawings, blueprints, specifications, schedules, and budgets
- Proven ability to lead safe work practices in a fast-paced construction environment while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget expectations
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Knowledge of construction equipment and its capabilities
- Ability to identify root causes of problems and constructability issues and determine viable solutions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with clients, trades, contractors, and project teams
- Working knowledge of Procore, Microsoft Office, and applicable construction software
- Valid provincial driver’s licence required
Preferred Qualifications
- Gold Seal Certification is preferred
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to influence others, negotiate, and resolve conflict
- Experience building and maintaining strong client and trade relationships
Work Environment and Schedule
This is a site-based commercial construction position that requires working outdoors in various weather conditions. The role may involve long hours, overtime, travel, and out-of-town work depending on project requirements. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in an active construction environment and coordinating multiple stakeholders in a deadline-driven setting.
