About Hope Mission
Hope Mission is a Christian non-profit social care agency that has been serving vulnerable people in Alberta since 1929. We are one of Alberta’s largest social service agencies and currently operate emergency shelters, addiction recovery programs, youth programs, community outreach services, housing programs, and health programs (delivered through our HopeHealth division) across Edmonton, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, and beyond. Our work is grounded in our Christian faith and our commitment to walking alongside individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and addiction. Position Summary
The Hope Mission Shuttle Bus program provides empathetic transportation services to vulnerable community members. The shuttle bus travels determined routes on a set schedule, working 10-hour shifts to ensure that community members are transported from one community resource to another. The program also provides transport to supportive resources for individuals who are stranded.
Key Responsibilities
Program / Direct Service
- Using a trauma-informed lens, support vulnerable community members at a street level by helping meet their basic transportation needs to shelter and/or other community resources.
- Drive within the City of Calgary to support individuals stranded at a closed or over-capacity community facility.
- Drive within the City of Calgary to provide general support services to vulnerable community members.
- Increase awareness of and provide referrals to social supports and services available from various agencies, organizations, and groups within Calgary.
- Ensure an excellent service experience for users of the shuttle bus program.
- Assist with additional tasks as assigned by the Manager, including supporting the intake desk and welcoming community members who use the Day Space.
Communication & Collaboration
- Liaise with other community agencies to provide community members with their transportation, shelter, and other basic needs.
- Liaise with other community agencies to provide the right referral information, connecting community members with the needed resource through a warm hand-off system.
- Increase public awareness of Hope Mission and its work through mobile services.
- Communicate with the Manager on vehicle maintenance concerns.
- Communicate with the Manager about staff welfare concerns.
Vehicle & Operations
- Ensure the shuttle bus is washed, cleaned, fueled, stocked, maintained, and ready to be used at a moment’s notice.
Administration & Reporting
- Complete a rotation report at the end of every shift.
- Ensure proper documentation of shuttle bus service users.
- Complete necessary incident reports for every critical incident.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Full Class 4 Alberta Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Standard First Aid Certificate is required upon hire.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset.

- Ability to work well under pressure and interact compassionately with intoxicated individuals and/or individuals experiencing poor mental health.
- Skill in coaching, facilitating, and training for life-change and character development.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Excellent day and night vision and a sharp sense of hearing.
- Capacity to adjust to rapid changes in temperature in and out of the vehicle.

Other Requirements
- As a Christian organization, Hope Mission requires employees to sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
- Able to provide a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Welfare Check.
- A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset.
- Adherence to Hope Mission’s policies and procedures.
