The Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward is dedicated to improving the lives of animals in our
community through compassionate care, responsible adoption, and public education.
We are currently seeking a part-time Animal Care Attendant to join our team.
Position Summary
As an Animal Care Attendant, you will play a key role in supporting the health, comfort, and
well-being of animals in our care. You will also help create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
for animals, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
This is a hands-on role ideal for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and enjoy
working in a fast-paced, team environment.
What You’ll Do
Animal Care
● Feed, clean, and provide daily care for shelter animals
● Monitor animal health and behaviour and report concerns
● Administer medications and treatments as directed
● Provide enrichment and exercise
Shelter Operations
● Clean and disinfect animal enclosures, equipment, and facility areas
● Perform laundry and general housekeeping duties
● Assist with animal intake, transfers, and transport as needed
Customer Service
● Assist members of the public with adoptions and general inquiries
● Provide accurate and compassionate information about animals
● Support a positive and respectful visitor experience
Team Collaboration
● Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers
● Follow all health and safety procedures
● Contribute to a respectful and inclusive workplace
What We’re Looking For
Required
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Valid Class G driver’s licence with a clean driving record
● Ability to handle animals safely and humanely
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Assets
● Experience in animal care (shelter, veterinary clinic, kennel, etc.) an asset
● Animal care training or certification an asset
● Experience with shelter software (e.g., PetPoint)
Work Environment
● Physically active role (lifting, cleaning, standing for extended periods)
● Regular exposure to animals, cleaning products, and noise
● May involve emotionally sensitive situations
Schedule & Compensation
● Part-time hours (up to approximately 28 hours per week)
● Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
● Hourly wage: $18.26
● Vacation pay provided in accordance with provincial standards

● Paid sick time in line with applicable policies
