Position Overview
The RSS Bias Body Technician is responsible for the assembly, repair, inspection, and testing of Rotary Steerable System (RSS) bias body components to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for field operations. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality while working in a fast-paced manufacturing and repair environment. The incumbent works closely with team members to meet production schedules, maintain quality standards, and support continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to established safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, repair, service, and refurbish RSS bias body components in accordance with engineering specifications, work instructions, and established procedures.
- Safely operate shop equipment, machinery, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments required for bias body assembly and repair.
- Complete assigned work in accordance with daily production schedules while meeting quality, productivity, and turnaround expectations.
- Inspect components and completed assemblies to verify compliance with specifications, identifying defects, damage, or non-conformances.
- Perform quality control inspections and accurately document inspection results, measurements, repairs, and completed work.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Collaborate with technicians and team members to meet production targets and resolve assembly or manufacturing challenges.
- Communicate equipment concerns, workflow issues, material shortages, or process improvement opportunities to the Team Lead or Shop Manager.
- Monitor inventory and material usage, reporting damaged, defective, or low-stock components to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard identification, and incident reporting.
- Participate in cross-training across multiple workstations and functions to support operational flexibility and changing production requirements.
- Receive and carry out work assignments and technical direction from Team Leads and supervisors while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
- Contribute ideas that improve safety, efficiency, product quality, and overall shop performance through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support other shop departments as required to meet operational priorities.
Education, Experience, Technical Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Technical School Certification, Diploma, or Degree in a related field is considered an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience in assembly, manufacturing, machining, or industrial repair environments preferred.
- Experience working with hydraulic, mechanical, or oilfield equipment is considered an asset.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and engineering documentation.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and shop machinery.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to identify problems, troubleshoot issues, and recommend practical solutions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively.
- Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe workplace and following established safety procedures.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is considered an asset.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive manual tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
