As the Manager of Parks and Public Works, you will lead a diverse, multifaceted team to deliver essential municipal services that keep Nelson clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors. Through strategic oversight of parks, public spaces, roads, and infrastructure, you will drive high-quality service delivery, ensure the year-round safety and maintenance of public assets, and advance waste reduction and sustainability initiatives. By fostering a productive, safety-focused workforce and coordinating capital projects and operations, you will play a key role in enhancing community experience and ensuring Nelson remains a beautiful, sustainable, and thriving municipality.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 graduation or GED (General Equivalency Diploma).
- Degree or diploma from a recognized college or institution with an emphasis on Local Government Administration, OR a Local Government Administration Certificate
- Extensive experience in the management/supervision of parks and public works
- Experience providing supervision in a Unionized environment
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal operations.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage diverse crews, coordinate complex operations, and deliver results in a dynamic municipal environment. They demonstrate sound knowledge of municipal infrastructure, maintenance practices, and budget management, paired with well-developed problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Success in this role requires the ability to foster a safe, accountable, and high-performing team culture, navigate a unionized environment with professionalism and fairness, and build positive relationships with staff, elected officials, and the public. Strong administrative capabilities, including report writing, policy development, and strategic planning, are essential to support effective service delivery and continuous improvement.

COMPENSATION: $107,839.47 - $119,821.63
LOCATION: On-Site
WORK DAYS: Monday - Friday
HOURS: 7:00 AM - 3:15 PM
