The Senior Health and Safety Coordinator develops, administers, and implements companywide occupational safety programs, and serves as the subject matter expert on all occupational safety topics within the Canadian region.
Safety Training
- Research, plan, organize and conduct Safety training programs for DSV Solutions Inc. employees regards to industry specific.
- Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet DSV standards, local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements
- Provide training to Warehouse associates and floor management and others on occupational safety good practices.
- Responsible for safety orientation, safety training, refresher safety training, job safety analysis, site inspections, Behaviour Safety Audits and reporting.
Reporting/Audits/Compliance
- Ensure the timely completion of Work related injuries / Near Miss / Property damage incident reports, implement corrective actions to address identified safety concerns.
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, Risk assessments safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations
- Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments
- Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs
- Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all DSV Solutions Inc. employees and subcontractors
- Responsible to conduct evacuation drill to test the effectiveness of emergency procedure.
- Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs
- Design safety standards to conform to industry standards and federal, provincial and local regulations
- Ensure the functionality of Joint Safety Committees/Representatives, as required by legislation
- Ensure appropriate first-aid supplies are maintained and ordered, as required.
People Management
- Liaise with WSIB/WCB on all claims, including managing appeals where appropriate
- Effectively manage return to work programs, working closely with the employee, his/her supervisors and the WSIB to ensure the employee's safety and health
- Provide advice and guidance to managers and supervisors to return injured employees (as soon as possible) to productive work following an injury
- Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
- Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation
- Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the workplace.
Competencies, Skills & Attributes:
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the OHSA and workers' compensation legislation· Strong organizational skills
- Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written)· Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize work
- Must be results-driven with an attention to detail
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, and MSDA) is considered a strong asset
- Three to five years' experience in occupational health and safety.
Compensation: Salary starting at $60,000, plus eligible benefits, in accordance with experience and internal equity
