JOB PURPOSE
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborates to ensure the provision of safe, quality care within the scope of professional nursing practice to patients and families in the Emergency Department. An expert clinical practitioner who leads nursing practice and supports frontline staff development, provides guidance and support to staff with decision making. Provides clinical supervision of staff to ensure standards of practice are maintained. Functions as a mentor, support person and educator for all healthcare providers caring for patients.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Active registration with the College of Nursing of New Brunswick (CNNB).
- Current BCLS certification
- Emergency Department experience or equivalent of acute care medical/surgical nursing experience within the past 5 years.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Demonstrated skill managing patient flow.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the competencies of BCLS, ACLS, Emergency Paediatric Nursing (ENPC), Trauma Nursing (TNCC) and Basic 12 lead ECG interpretation, as demonstrated by certification and/or written and practical testing.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities and complex patient care needs.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment is an asset.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in orientation of new staff under direction of Nurse Manager/Clinical Resource
- Assesses learning needs of employees against clearly defined standards, expectations and practice guidelines. Provides feedback and coaching. Report findings to Nurse Manager/Clinical Resource.
- Responds to emergency situations and rapidly changing priorities
- Prioritizes and delivers complex care
- Completes annual advanced nursing competencies related to critical care
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of work
- Embraces a culture of client/family centered collaborative care.
