Position Purpose
This position is responsible to be available on an as needed bases 24 hours a day 7 days a week inclusive of statutory holidays, throughout the winter season, for providing general winter maintenance to Town roads sidewalks and Town owned road-side properties. A weekly minimum of 24 hours of work per week regardless of hours worked. It is expected that the 24 hours per week will be scheduled where possible according to weather forecasts. Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum five (5) year related experience
- Experience in the use of winter operations and maintenance equipment (e.g. combination unit plow/spreader units, tractors, loaders, sidewalk snow clearing machines and four-wheel drive plow trucks, skid steer tractors etc.)
- Experience working with work-order systems, electronic record keeping, and electronic communication through cellphones and/or laptops (email and messaging)
- Must be able to respond/attend a call-out within one hour of notification at any time, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Ability to work irregular and/or extended hours including all weekends, Statutory Holidays
- Possess a Class G, DZ or AZ driver¿s licence
- MTO CVOR Abstract in good standing required to operate corporate vehicles;

JOB DESCRIPTION
Winter Equipment Operator ¿ Part-time
Operations and Infrastructure
Operations Supervisor or designate
This position is responsible to be available on an as needed bases 24 hours a day 7 days a week inclusive of statutory holidays, throughout the winter season, for providing general winter maintenance to Town roads sidewalks and Town owned road-side properties. A weekly minimum of 24 hours of work per week regardless of hours worked. It is expected that the 24 hours per week will be scheduled where possible according to weather forecasts.
- Operates vehicles and equipment for the purpose of maintaining roads, sidewalks and boulevards during the winter maintenance period
- Performs winter maintenance, snow clearing and removals well as material spready activities
- Operates equipment such as:
- Pick-up truck with snow-plow attachment with or without a sander unit
- Plow/Dump truck (5 Tonne Plow-Wing Combination unit)
- Wheel loaders
- Sidewalk tractors (various makes)
- Other equipment as required
- Maintains the Town work yards (including shop and garage) through regular cleaning
- Maintains Town owned trucks and equipment by washing regularly and performing minor maintenance
- Performs general maintenance work and general labour
- Is involved in heavy manual labour when required
- Responsible for keeping accurate log documentation for hours of service in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act.
- Maintain written logs of inspections and work activities, including the use of digital or electronic recording keeping systems.
- Provides detailed accounts and reports for accidents, incidents, etc. to aid in Insurance Claim investigations.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Skill/Knowledge/Availability Requirements
- Successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Additional training on the use of heavy equipment. OGRA training is an asset
- Minimum five (5) year related experience
- Experience in the use of winter operations and maintenance equipment (e.g. combination unit plow/spreader units, tractors, loaders, sidewalk snow clearing machines and four-wheel drive plow trucks, skid steer tractors etc.)
- Experience working with work-order systems, electronic record keeping, and electronic communication through cellphones and/or laptops (email and messaging)
- Working knowledge of the Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards
- Demonstrated ability to work professionally and courteously with the public
- Possess a Class G, DZ or AZ driver¿s licence
- DZ or AZ driver¿s license considered as an asset
- MTO CVOR Abstract in good standing required to operate corporate vehicles;
- Ability to work irregular and/or extended hours including all weekends, Statutory Holidays
- Must be able to respond/attend a call-out within one hour of notification at any time, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Operators must be able to work up to the maximum hours prescribed in O.Reg. 555/06.
- Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, kneel, bend, walk, lift, and carry objects of varying weights up to 50lbs
- Ability to perform all physical demands of the job under adverse conditions
- Work is primarily outdoors with frequent exposure to potential hazards and inclement weather
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as alone
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Must be able to consistently follow all Town policies and procedures
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
