Engineering Team Lead – Transmission Lines Engineering (Structural Design)

Position Highlights
The Structural Team is responsible for providing Engineering services on capital and maintenance of Transmission and
Microwave projects in the province of BC. For these projects, the responsibility of the team includes assuming Professional
of Record and/or Owner’s Engineer roles for analysis and design of wood, FRP, and steel transmission and
telecommunication structures. In addition to analysis and design, Engineering tasks for these structures may also include:
tender preparation and evaluation; witnessing of structure testing; assembly and erection plans; field reviews; and
construction support.
In addition, the Team supports the Shared Assets business group where the Team provides engineering design and review
of third-party cellular equipment attached to BC Hydro transmission structures.
Team members are also responsible for emergency or urgent response of transmission line outages and structural
damages caused by weather, ground settlement, geohazard instability, avalanches, deterioration and/or corrosion, and
accidents caused by crews or the public. Response may be in the form of structure inspections, design and analysis, role of
engineering emergency coordinator, site instructions, or engineering field support of temporary and permanent repairs.
Development and updating of BC Hydro standards as well as developing and improving processes are additional tasks that
fall under the Teams responsibilities.
The work environment is considered multi-disciplinary as the candidate will work closely with Electrical, Geotechnical and
Civil disciplines as well as Asset Management, Telecommunication, Environmental, Safety, Forestry, and Construction &
Contract Management teams.
The Structural Team’s focus is on technical aspect of the projects and management of those projects is supported by a
team of professional project managers internally and externally.
What you'll do
The successful candidate will lead and supervise a team of about 12 engineers, technologists, and consultants to complete
the assigned work. In addition to the team members, the Team Lead is responsible for administration of Engineering
consulting services prequalified to deliver engineering work packages for the team.
Knowledge of overhead transmission line and telecommunication structures in design, and/or maintenance, detailing, and
fabrication will be an asset.

including but not limited to:
