As a Cross-Platform Journalist based in Gaspé, you will report to the Senior Manager of News and Programming for Gaspé–Magdalen Islands. You will write copy and produce stories for the News department in compliance with CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Work schedules may include weekend shifts.
Key Tasks:

Keep up with current events through a variety of news sources.

Cultivate and maintain a network of local contacts.

Pitch and receive story assignments.
-
Research, gather, evaluate and vet all material for assigned stories.

Plan reports around the story being covered. Conduct interviews and assess their relevance. Field-produce television shoots. Record audio for radio and digital platforms. Take or oversee photography for digital platforms.

Review audio and visual elements to select the most impactful clips. Provide context/data for accompanying graphics.

Develop story angles and write a variety of content (story copy, headlines, briefs, script/clips, intros, ticker headlines, etc.) tailored to specific platforms, updating them as news develops. Adapt content across various news programs. Translate or adapt copy or interviews into the broadcast language as assigned.

Script and narrate reports.

Submit copy for vetting.

Supervise editing as required. Select, clip and assemble audio/video segments for television. Perform basic audio editing for radio. Edit and format audio and video elements for digital platforms.

Prepare live stand-ups. Propose questions and clips, and suggest their order.

Deliver news updates or reports on air.

Publish copy, stories and audio/video elements directly to digital platforms.

Alert the newsroom immediately to any breaking news or special coverage opportunities.

Vet other journalists’ copy and contribute to collaborative reports as requested.

Provide written updates (notes, wire stories, etc.) to the Journalist/Presenter during special broadcasts.
This role requires full-time on-site presence.
Your profile:
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
-
Three (3) years’ journalism experience or equivalent.
Skills:
-
Broad general knowledge.
-
Strong grasp of regional, provincial and national affairs.

Fluency in French (working language).

Strong understanding of interviewing techniques and audio, visual and digital storytelling.

Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.

Good computer and social media skills.

Interest in and aptitude for learning new technologies.
-
Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Willingness to work flexible, irregular hours depending on the assignment.

Valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance company.

Journalism assessment (general knowledge, French grammar and writing).
