Summary
The Maintenance Technician will work as part of the Breeder farm team ensuring the company’s animal husbandry and biosecurity practices are followed. Responsibilities may include monitoring and regulating ventilation and temperature; ensuring water quality and supply; monitoring feed levels and handling live or deceased birds, collecting eggs and weighing birds. This role combines farm support with a strong focus on carpentry and structural maintenance, including repairing and maintaining farm buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
Schedule
This is a full-time position working on average 40 hours a week; on a rotating schedule. Varying hours, including weekends, on-call shifts, and holidays may be required based on operational needs.
Position Accountabilities

Assist with barn setup
-
Conduct regular barn maintenance (cleaning floors, garbage removal, etc.)

Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

Perform carpentry work, including repairs to barns, structures, flooring, and general building maintenance

Repair and replace items such as floorboards, walls, and fixtures as needed
-
Help set priorities and communicate with Breeder Farm Manager preventative maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work

Repair, install, and maintain various electrical components, appliances and equipment in accordance with pertinent codes

Initiate safety concerns and make judgment on the best methods of completing.

The ability to prioritize and time management is critical in this position

Ensuring water quality and supply are adequate and flush waterlines as needed

Maintaining the scratch area of pens

Support pest control and fly management
-
Inspect barns post-wash and test equipment

General cleaning and setting up of equipment and rooms

Assist with bird moves & vaccinations as needed

Respond to alarm calls as required

Provide an environment free of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect for our poultry

Protect the organization’s value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential

Practice bio-security protocol

Follow all safety processes and procedures

All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

Experience in carpentry or general construction is strongly preferred

Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively

Strong problem-solving and practical building skills

Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

Good communication and teamwork skills

Comfortable working in a farm environment

Grade 12 or equivalent and/or post-secondary in Agricultural field preferred

Willingness to work with live poultry

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Experience in the agricultural industry and/or food processing preferable

A valid driver’s license with a clean driver abstract required

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
