Position Overview
You will be working with people who have experienced or are experiencing gender-based violence (GBV), family violence (FV) and/or intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lives. Therefore, an expectation of non-judgementalism in action and demeanor is required.
You will contribute positively to our work atmosphere, understanding that your role as team member must include respect for your co-workers, compassion for lived experience, equity in the workplace, and the importance of supporting all anti-lateral violence initiatives and policies.
You can work effectively with people who identify on any gender scale, female presenting or not. You possess the capacity to utilize standard First Aid and interact with EMS and RCMP as needed in crisis situations.
You possess adequate computer literacy to enable you to facilitate Intake and Departure documentation, assist clients with filling in forms for rentals, housing supports, addictions support, and/or Alberta Supports benefits.
Further, you possess a solid working knowledge of the English language and the ability to write clear, concise, and objective client case notes, and/or incident reports.
You will provide client care which includes but is not limited to building a professional rapport, providing crisis assessment, crisis intervention conversations, safety strategy conversations and implementation, crisis management between clients in house, emotional support for clients, and allow for clients to be open about their experiences.
You will be required to perform general housekeeping duties on every shift including but not limited to dusting, sweeping, mopping, emptying garbage bins, cleaning bathrooms (walls, tubs, toilets, and sinks) and bringing trash to outside receptacle bin.
You will be required to move beds to strip and make them, complete laundry tasks, wash client room walls, assist clients with moving their items to and from rooms, and sort and process clothing and item donations.
You may be required to perform administrative duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Proficiency in the English language
- Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
- Non-judgmental

- Self-care literate
- Can lift items up to 50lbs, use stairs and step stools
Educational Assets:
- Related work experience in domestic violence shelter
- Social Work/Social Services/Human Services Certificate/Diploma or other relevant social services education; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
