About the Role
We are hiring a Junior Surveyor to join our construction survey team. This is an entry-level, field-based position designed to grow. You will start as a second person on the crew: supporting our main surveyor, running the rod and prism, setting up base stations and total stations, and learning how layout is done to our standard. As your skills and confidence develop, you will take on more layout responsibility and progress toward running your own instrument and, over time, your own crew.
This role suits someone who likes being outside, is comfortable with numbers and geometry, takes pride in precision, and wants a clear path forward in construction surveying.
What You Will Do
- Support field layout. Assist our main surveyor with daily construction layout on active job sites: gridlines, footings, anchor bolts, curbs, underground services, grades, and as-built pickups.
- Run the equipment. Set up and operate RTK/GNSS rovers and base stations, total stations, levels, and data collectors under supervision, progressing to independent operation.
- Check control. Locate, verify, and maintain site control; flag discrepancies between control, drawings, and field conditions before they become problems.
- Mark and record. Stake, mark, and flag points clearly and consistently; maintain accurate field notes, point files, and daily reports.
- Help with data prep. Prepare and check layout data from drawings and models; assist with cut sheets, point exports, and basic CAD tasks as training progresses.
- Look after the gear. Keep instruments, radios, batteries, tripods, and the company vehicle clean, charged, calibrated, and ready to go.
- Work safely. Follow all site safety requirements, wear required PPE, and participate in daily hazard assessments and toolbox talks.
- Communicate. Work with site supervisors, trades, and engineers to coordinate layout timing and resolve questions in the field.
What We Are Looking For
Required
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey/Geomatics Technology, or a related program, OR equivalent hands-on construction survey field experience.
- Valid Ontario G driver's licence with a clean driving record (company vehicle is provided).
- Comfortable with math, geometry, and reading construction drawings, or eager to learn quickly.
- Physically able to work outdoors in all weather, walk and stand for long periods, and lift and carry survey equipment (up to approximately 25 kg).
- Reliable, punctual, and able to start early to match site schedules.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions rather than guess.
Considered an Asset
- Exposure to Trimble equipment and software (Trimble Access, Trimble Business Center) or comparable systems.
- Basic AutoCAD or Civil 3D skills.
- Familiarity with construction sites, site safety practices, and common trades.
- Valid Working at Heights and WHMIS certification (training can be provided).
Working Conditions
- Field-based role on active construction sites across GTA; occasional out-of-town assignments.
- Outdoor work year-round, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Typical schedule is Monday to Friday with early starts; some overtime and occasional weekend work depending on project needs.
- Company vehicle, fuel card, PPE, and all survey equipment are provided.
