Position Summary:
BDS is currently seeking an experienced AZ Company Explosives Driver in Sudbury, Ontario. The successful candidate will be provided training opportunities to advance into a Supervisory position.
As an integral member of our team, you will be responsible for the safe transportation of specialized loads throughout Canada, with optional opportunities to haul into the United States. This role includes hands-on involvement in loading, securing, and delivery of explosives and general freight using primarily dry van trailers.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Due to dispatch requirements, candidates must reside within 30 minutes of Sudbury, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport explosives and general freight in accordance with transport regulations and safety requirements.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and securing equipment and materials.
- Complete through pre-trip and post-trip inspections including hazard assessments
- Complete all required documentation accurately, timely and in compliance with all regulatory and legal standards
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, crew members, and clients
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
- Complete all and any assigned tasks with personal and public safety as a top priority
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Valid Class 1 (or AZ) Driver’s License with air brake endorsement, in good standing.
- Minimum 3 years of verifiable AZ driving experience.
- Demonstrated off-road and winter driving experience
- Must be available and willing to travel long-haul and stay overnight as required (work away from home).
- Willingness to complete a criminal background check and pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to working safely and adhere to BDS safety and operational policies.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and push/pull 50-75 lbs.
- Ability to crank trailer dollies (approx. 50 lbs. of force).
- Some shipments will require use of a manual pallet jack to move heavier loads.
- Ability to install, remove, and maintain tire chains in adverse weather conditions.
Preferred Experience (Assets)
Preferential treatment will be given to candidates that possess the qualifications below.
- Mining industry hauling experience.
- Explosives hauling / handling experience.
- Tank hauling and flat deck experience.
- Bilingual (English & French).
- Willingness and ability to obtain a passport for travel to the U.S.
- Willingness and ability to obtain a FAST Card.
