The Microbiology Laboratory Technician reports to the Senior Microbiologist and the Quality Control Manager. This role is responsible for conducting microbiological tests in accordance with established methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and cGMP and GLP requirements. The technician also documents and interprets acquired data, investigates and evaluates processes and procedural practices, and addresses deviations and corrective action plans. Additionally, this position involves reviewing analytical documentation and maintaining laboratory records and inventory as required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform microbiological testing and procedures including but not limited to sterility, environmental monitoring, microbial identification, media preparation, preservative effectiveness and water evaluation.
- Isolate and maintain cultures of microorganisms including identification of microorganisms by examinations (gram staining).
- Maintain all documentation of tests performed and results obtained in accordance with cGMP, GDP and GLP guidelines and regulations.
- Provide technical support related to microbiological issues.
- Investigate out of specification results and deviations.
- Participate in the development of the microbial method suitability tests.
- Perform growth promotion testing of media.
- Provide experienced input with respect to development and amendment of microbiological procedures and practices.
- Perform lab equipment maintenance and calibration in accordance to procedures, record results and maintain calibration documentation.
- Adhere to all quality policies and procedures, as well as health and safety regulations.
- Wears, uses, and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Any other related duties as required. The position requires the candidate to be able to work outside normal shift hours based on business needs including weekends or alternate shifts.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively, especially under pressure.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment and meeting tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and the ability to interpret and communicate information clearly.
- Proficient in performing various microbiological tests with a solid understanding of laboratory procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient in computer use, including documentation and data entry.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Actively contributes to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
- Physically capable of performing manual tasks such as standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and twisting.
- Willing and able to work overtime or alternate shifts as required.
