Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable, responsible, and customer-focused Night Customer Service Champion to join our overnight team at our busy Shell gas station in Kanata, Ontario. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organized store during overnight hours.
As the Night Customer Service Champion, you will provide exceptional customer service, accurately process fuel and retail transactions, prepare fresh food and beverages, replenish inventory, and ensure the store is clean, secure, and ready for the next business day. You will also be responsible for monitoring store safety, following all company policies, and complying with Ontario regulations regarding tobacco, lottery, and alcohol sales.
Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, professional, and courteous customer service to all customers during overnight hours.
- Process cash, debit, credit, mobile payment, fuel, lottery, and merchandise transactions accurately using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
- Balance cash drawer and complete end-of-shift cash reconciliation.
- Prepare fresh coffee, hot beverages, panini sandwiches, and other ready-to-eat food items while following food safety standards.
- Restock shelves, coolers, beverage stations, and food displays throughout the night.
- Receive overnight deliveries (when applicable) and organize inventory in storage areas.
- Rotate stock using FIFO practices and remove expired or damaged products.
- Maintain cleanliness of the entire store, including washrooms, coffee station, food preparation areas, sales floor, coolers, and storage rooms.
- Clean the fuel forecourt, fuel pumps, garbage bins, windshield stations, and exterior areas.
- Complete overnight cleaning checklists and store maintenance tasks.
- Ensure the store is fully stocked, clean, and ready for the morning shift.
- Monitor store security and remain alert to suspicious activities, theft, or safety concerns.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and report incidents immediately to management.
- Verify customer identification for tobacco, lottery, and alcohol purchases in accordance with Ontario regulations.
- Promote store promotions, loyalty programs, and featured products to customers.
- Assist with inventory counts and merchandising projects as assigned.
- Work independently while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational excellence.
- Perform opening preparation duties for the morning team.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by management
Experience
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, cashier, convenience store, or gas station operations is an asset but not required.
- Experience working overnight shifts is preferred.
- Valid Smart Serve Certification is required.
- Previous cash handling and POS experience is preferred.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Comfortable performing cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the shift.
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs (11 kg).
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work overnight, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies or challenging situations.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
