Dechant Construction / Shott Earthworks Inc. is currently seeking experienced Surveyors to add to our survey team for upcoming projects throughout Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate layout, grade verification, quantity tracking, and survey support for earthworks, underground utilities, roadbuilding, and civil infrastructure projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
The ideal candidate will have previous survey and heavy equipment GPS experience (Trimble), previous experience using AutoCAD, and previous experience working on both civil and industrial oilfield projects. They will be willing to travel, and work in remote locations when required. They will be safety conscious, and expected to adhere to our company health and safety program and all relevant legislation.
Duties
- Perform construction layout and staking for earthworks, grading, roadbuilding, utilities, and related civil works
- Operate GPS, total station and surveying equipment
- Upload, manage, and verify machine control files for GPS-equipped equipment
- Complete as-built surveys and maintain accurate survey records
- Verify elevations, grades, slopes, and alignments according to project drawings and specifications
- Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and equipment operators to support daily operations
- Assist with quantity calculations, volume tracking, and progress reporting
- Identify and communicate discrepancies between design drawings and field conditions
- Ensure all survey activities are completed safely and in compliance with company and site-specific safety requirements
- Maintain and calibrate survey equipment as required
Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction surveying, preferably in earthworks or civil construction
- Proficient with GPS survey equipment, total stations, and machine control systems
- Experience with Trimble, Topcon, Leica, or similar survey systems considered an asset
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and specifications
- Strong understanding of grading, elevations, and construction layout practices
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Current First Aid, Ground Disturbance II, CSTS 2020, CSO, H2S and WHMIS certifications
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced construction environment
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
