Role Overview
Luxcom Technologies is seeking a hardware/software engineer to support the design and development of embedded networking products used in a variety of communications environments including fibre-optic communication systems.
This position focuses on electronic circuit design with microcontrollers and FPGAs, firmware development and PCB design for networking devices.
This role requires someone comfortable working across embedded firmware, digital hardware, and networking technologies.
The successful candidate will participate in all phases of development, including architecture, schematic capture, FPGA and microcontroller design, PCB layout, prototype bring-up, testing, and manufacturing support.
Responsibilities
- Design electronic circuits for embedded networking systems
- Develop schematics and PCB layouts
- Integrate microcontrollers, FPGAs, Ethernet PHYs, and switching devices
- Develop firmware for embedded processors and microcontrollers using C and/or Python
- Design and integrate FPGA-based logic using VHDL, Verilog, or vendor toolchains
- Interface with Ethernet PHYs, switches, and networking chipsets
- Work with communication interfaces such as SPI, I²C, UART, RGMII, and JTAG
- Mini PCI Express communications card development
- Produce schematics, BOMs, design documentation, and manufacturing files
- Support prototype builds and hardware debugging
- Perform board bring-up and validation
- Conduct lab testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and network analyzers
Required Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent experience
- MINIMUM 5 YEARS OF INDUSTRY WORK EXPERIENCE
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design
- Experience working with FPGA (Xilinx, Intel/Altera, Lattice, or similar) development & microcontroller-based systems
- Proficiency in C & micropython programming
- Familiarity with networking interfaces and Ethernet hardware
- Hands-on lab debugging experience
- Familiarity with Ethernet and networking hardware
Preferred Experience
- Experience designing PCIe or mPCIe hardware
- Embedded Linux
- Optical networking systems
- EMC/EMI design practices
- Synchronous serial interfaces
- HDLC communications
