Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and compassionate Speech-Language Pathologist to lead our Speech-Language Pathology Department. This role combines clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, allowing you to maintain an active clinical caseload while providing mentorship, clinical guidance, and operational oversight for the Speech-Language Pathology team.
As Department Head, you will help shape the growth and quality of SLP services within the organization by supporting staff development, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and ensuring exceptional care for clients and families.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and clinical guidance to Speech-Language Pathologists within the department.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and supportive team culture.
- Facilitate regular department meetings and individual check-ins with team members.
- Support staff with clinical decision-making, problem solving, and professional growth.
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring new Speech-Language Pathologists.
Clinical Practice
- Maintain an active clinical caseload, including assessment, intervention, consultation, and caregiver coaching.
- Develop individualized treatment plans using evidence-based practices.
- Collaborate with families, schools, physicians, and other professionals to support client outcomes.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and professional clinical documentation.
Department Operations
- Support day-to-day operations of the Speech-Language Pathology department.
- Review and approve timesheets, expenses, and other administrative requirements.
- Participate in agency leadership meetings and collaborate with other department heads.
- Help monitor department workload, staffing needs, and service quality.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of department processes, policies, and clinical resources.
Clinical Excellence
- Support consistent implementation of evidence-based practices across the department.
- Ensure services align with organizational values, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Apply knowledge of Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) programming and funding models when supporting clinicians and families.
- Encourage ongoing professional development and knowledge sharing within the team.
Collaboration & Community Engagement
- Work closely with Behaviour Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Therapy Support Aides, and other professionals to provide coordinated care.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, schools, physicians, and funding agencies.
- Stay informed of current research, best practices, and emerging trends within Speech-Language Pathology.
Student Supervision
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and learning opportunities for Speech-Language Pathology students and new clinicians as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).
- Valid Drivers License and comfort level to drive around the surrounding Calgary area.
- Minimum of five years of clinical experience preferred.
- Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience is considered a strong asset.
Clinical Expertise
Experience assessing and treating a range of pediatric communication needs, including:
- Speech sound disorders
- Receptive and expressive language disorders
- Fluency (stuttering)
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Social communication
- Early language development

Pay: $45.00-$60.00 per hour
