Position Summary
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Accounting Clerk manages the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping for DJN and the other companies in our group. This role owns monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, transaction categorization and receipt filing, project/job coding, and GST/PST filings across all group entities, along with full-cycle AP/AR and general office support.
Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly for all companies within the DJN group of companies.
- Categorize all transactions and ensure receipts are properly filed and matched to the correct transaction.
- Allocate and track transactions to the correct project/job for DJN and group companies.
- Prepare and file GST and PST returns for all companies within the group.
- Perform full-cycle accounts receivable and accounts payable - invoicing, collections follow-up, entering and coding bills, and processing payments.
- Support with booking hotels and flights for staff travel.
- Provide general administrative support to the office as needed, including correspondence, filing, supplies, scheduling, and other duties as they arise.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Proven accounting or bookkeeping experience (1-3+ years), ideally supporting more than one company/entity or a group of companies.
- Working knowledge of GST/PST filing requirements, with experience preparing and filing returns.
- Comfortable with full-cycle AP/AR - invoicing, bill entry/coding, payment processing, and basic collections.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - this role depends on accurate categorization, complete receipt filing, and correct project/job coding.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
- Comfortable juggling multiple companies' books and shifting priorities and admin requests day to day.
- Discretion with confidential financial information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Considered an Asset
- Formal bookkeeping/accounting certification or coursework (e.g., CPA-track, accounting or bookkeeping diploma).
- Experience with JobTread or similar construction project-management software.
- Experience in construction or a project-based industry (job costing, holdbacks, progress billing).
- Experience booking corporate travel (flights, hotels).
