Position Summary
Fil-Trek is seeking a Robotics Co-op Student to support the Welding Automation Department. This position provides hands-on experience in robotic welding, process improvement, programming support, data collection, and automation projects that improve quality, consistency, and productivity within our manufacturing operations.
Successful students may be offered an extension for an additional one or two academic terms based on performance, project progress, and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the setup, testing, and optimization of robotic welding systems.
- Assist with programming adjustments and troubleshooting robotic welding equipment under supervision.
- Collect, organize, and analyze welding process data.
- Develop standardized documentation, work instructions, and operating procedures.
- Work with Engineering, Production, and Welding teams to improve automated welding processes.
- Maintain accurate project records and provide progress updates.
Initial Co-op Project
The student's primary project will be the Red Boom Internal Shell Welding Standardization Project, which includes:
- Developing a comprehensive welding parameter log for all internally welded shells.
- Recording and validating robot settings, weld parameters, travel speeds, torch positions, and program revisions.
- Creating a standardized database and reference guide for repeatable welding setups.
- Assisting in identifying opportunities to improve weld quality, consistency, and cycle times through parameter optimization.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related post-secondary program.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial automation.
- Ability to read engineering drawings is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to work in a manufacturing environment.
